It was from way back before hugely documented online build threads ('01/02, I think?) but there's some good shots in this Vortex thread; http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3096989-Purchased Obviously nowhere near as wide as the A59, but Brad at 1552 would have done a better job than NGP's "Fast and Furious" effort...
Thats actually pretty fricking awesome! Looks like a Rieger copy (because I don't remember them doing a Mk3 kit). Google Rieger Corrado or Scirocco, and you'll see what I mean.
Boulekos Dynamic and Golf A59 Found this whilst sniffing about tonight http://www.boulekosdynamic.com/en/company/istoriko Interesting Greek company, and some pics of the A59 Golf 'It is worth noting that we cooperate with Sms engineering tuning company (Schmidtmotorsport) and we have acquired a VW GOLF A59 prototype frame (pic.5 - pic.6 - pic.7)'
Reading about the a59 this morning and it seems there were two cars and three bodykits. One car is in the vw museam (sliver) and the second was presumed lost or destroyed. Wonder if this is it? Third bodykit is on a blue mk3 in Canada/US.
On that site of theirs, seems strange they made a turbo kit for the 1400 motor when they could just chuck an ABF or VR in and have more shove 1.4 8v turbo in a Mk3? Pass. Cool to see an A59 over there though, seems to be a fair bit that's been going on in Greece in recent times with regard to VAG stuff considering the economic issues and stuff. No love for the gash looking blue 'one' in the States though. Nice idea, good work scoring parts, badly executed.
The Four Golf A59s - myths busted, Volkswagen Driver Magazine, September 2014 The story of the Golf A59 has been a discussion topic on here and around the www for years. Just a few links for a flavour: link 1, link 2, link 3, link 4, link 5, link 6, link 7. Stories repeated and repeated of only three cars made (myth 1), just one car surviving (myth 2), three bodykits made (myth 3), the last original bodykit going on the blue 'FK' / 'NGP' Golf VR6 Drivers Edition in the USA (myth 4), and so on. Repeated around the net for so many years that they're all seen as indisputable facts. All now in tatters Having previously rooted out information on the A59 engine's history mainly in >> this thread <<, recently HPR and myself had a far closer look into the A59. And it led to the discovery of the original A59, the one which precedes the A59 which Volkswagen often display in their museum. Cue road trip: The original prototype A59, 'Car Zero'. All the bodyshell modifications, but fitted with an EA827 engine, 034-code shortened 5-cylinder Quattro dummy exhaust manifold, Syncro box, wide track, multi-link rear suspension, and unmistakably - the feature which sets it apart - is that monster rear spoiler which the Wolfsburg Museum car doesn't have: Four cars / bodyshells were made, not three as folklore has it, plus two extras Four cars survive Bodykits... you want bodykits? How many do you want...? The definitive A59 story, on the shelves from next Wednesday, or call +44 (0)1525 750 500 and get it in the post! An iPad Edition with bonus pictures is available a few days afterwards (see www.autometrix.co.uk)
The car pictured in the 1994 Volkswagen Audi Car article scanned above is 'Car Zero', with the EA827 ABF 16v engine which has recently been unearthed >> here <<. The second one is the A59 everyone knows - silver wheels, small rear spoiler - which Volkswagen have had all the time, often in their museum. Then on top there's the third and fourth cars
