The Corrado front bumper will weigh 3x's that of the MK2 big bumper and the bonnet will weigh 4x's that of a MK2 bonnet. The Corrado VR weighs in @ approx 1250kg where I think the MK2 3dr 16v is around 957kg so on those figures alone if the too heavy theory was correct then it would make the Corrado VR the worst handling VW on the track especially because of the compounded problem of the bonnet and bumper etc. I can understand someone saying that the lighter the car the better but to say VRs dont handle is complete misconception VRs fitted to MK2s by idiots who dont alter the suspension from when they took the 8v out and make reasonable alterations are a bad example to all but thats still no excuse for the bullsh1t brigade to perpetuate the myth
i can't argue with the performance of Daz's banana having seen it at the (very tight and twisty) curborough track. however, depending on budget, i would always think that a 16v mk2 track car will be significantly cheaper to build than a VR would
A MK2 track car will be cheaper to build unless you want to try to get 200bhp out of it. A MK2 with a few mods does make a good track car but the only point Ive beind trying to make is that they are not the be all......there is an alternative PS.. thought i'd see you at Blyton????????
On the subject of MK2 VRs, I drove one last year that was build by a mechanic and it was so bad I wouldnt have driven it over 40mph on the track, it was diabolical but he thought it was great
last time i saw the vr was when i went round blyton in the mk1 have missed it since because of work - now that i have a <cough> jap car <cough> i think i will struggle to sneak into some of the vw only events....
Kin hell do you have to wear a balaclava at VW meets now .... what was the reg of the MK1???? will see if i have any pics Edited by: motorhead
was a few years ago i went around blyton in the mk1 (chris eyre still had the mk1 jetta) car was TLC 722 W, black mk1 and yes i now have 200bhp, 200lbft, 2 litre 16v turbo, RWD and an LSD so obviously it's gonna be out on track at some point...
Black MK1....eeerrrrrrr this one????? not easy to see reg number but i'm sure it's you. sorry must edit these vids into small lumps You know what its like, when your driving theres no time to take pics. My son was in charge of the camcorder and camera so if I cant find a pic of you Ill give him a good slap Edited by: motorhead
wow - it played! yes it was me and the amusing thing? - i can remember seeing this flying banana appear at warp speed behind me - since it was my first day i thought i'd do the decent thing and bail out of the way sharpish! will have to get someone to video me on the track in the new car - i'm sure i will do something dramatic (especially if it rains )
ok guys i think i've made a choice. I think the ABF will be a good starter for me and will give a good amount of power for my first track car. I just don't think i'll want or need the power of a VR just yet. It'll also be a conversion i'm pretty sure i can do myself. (you might see a fair few ABF related questions over the next few months though ) thanks for the advice on this thread guys...
Ive bought a bullet that gives a top quality pic and a new camcorder for the new car, all I need now is a pre amp'd mic to catch the engine note and the bad language
well when you are lapping me on whatever trackday the Datsun comes out on you'll have to get some more footage (i'll see if i can do a dramatic spin or something this time )
