and the vw stuff is pretty fast, and free.

However without serous mods, there is no point in remapping it

for small capacity a turbo will give the most bhp/

Right, it really does depends if you're going to run it naturally aspirated, or forced induction to what ECU you choose.

As for having a base map on emerald as benificial, not a hope in hell im afraid, you'll be able to start the car and thats pretty much it, it won't idle, rev freely or anything.

Emerald is an perfectly acceptable choice IF you're going naturally aspirated, and dave walker will map the whole car for 240. I garentee his rollers are miles better than jabbasports, TSR's, stealths etc etc.

They 1600's have the potential to be a cracking revvy monster of and engine due to the short stroke of em.

What I don't understand is what benefit you are looking to get from running a programmable ECU when no work has been done on the engine. Surely it makes more sense to do whatever work you want to do on the engine first then get the ECU mapped afterwards, or have I just completely mis-understood?

You're half right edc, electronic mappable ignition on a car that uses bob weights to advance the ignition will always give better power in general. for modern ignition/forul systems, you're right.

correct TT, P.S. hows your project getting on?

ok, i wasnt going to go into this, but it seems i need to
the spec i was going for was:

    AFH 16v head,worked on

    256 or higher cams

    45mm TBs , 120mm trumpets

    rebore/restroke to 1800cc

    lightend balenced bottom end

6spd lupo box with different final drive

now as i said, this was just to put me on for a while
    as i also said, 75bhp from a 1.6 8v is a bit down

so is the general idea that i wont gain much....?

idea has now changed for the head, but im keeping that under wraps.....as my mind is always changing
and im not sure if it will work...

    comments are helpfull, cheers

should run on a generic map if all the sensors types are
    configured properly

well enough to limp it to a RR

    :o ... well I would say 100bhp from a VW 1.6 8v engine ain't bad considering the 1.8 gives 90bhp and the 2.0GTI gives 115bhp

thats my point polo classic you have to spend out serious to get 136bhp from a 1.6

    when you could use a 1.8 16v costing 200

or a 2L 8v with a flowed head and cam for under a grand.

I didnt do A level economics for nuttin lol
