    Hi guys,

im wondering if any one can help? im in the process of of buying a DAMAGED 225 APX engine from a 2000 audi tt, im really wanted a BAM engine but this has come along at the right price, iv tried to search the forum on deferences on the engines, and know the common ones like bam has vvt , egt sensors ect ect , but i really need to know if theres any deferences in the actual blocks themselves??

i have read somwhere that the later bam has extra webbing for strenght, but i am unsure if this is true, or do they both share the same block and the apx has extra webbing also????

plus im planing to put an agu head on the apx, is this a straight swap??

    thanks for any info

Go by the number cast into the block. If they are the same, they are the same blocks at the outset, which means the ribbings etc will be the same. Ignore the BAM / APX letters. They cast the block, stick the head on and ancillaries, then stamp an engine code in according to the install.

If you have any more info to add to this, even just one of the two codes matched with casting numbers, then we can probably find the other too:

Quite high if an APX is 225 brake. Both in same territory.

Hi, I've updated that number into the linked thread

There is a match in there, second from bottom. I am pretty sure I got this from a Forumula Palmer Audi block, so cannot be 100% what code it runs.

New thread time, and hopefully we'll solve this quite interesting Q:

APX is a 225 bhp engine. 9:0 comp etc...
Block cast number matches my AYP block and my "guess" its exactly the same as a BAM block

Pic of my block; its hard to make out but i think its right.

    Threads merged.

It is very possible they are all the same, yes.

This is your block, internal water pump:

Note the latter pic is a race engine - ignore sump, manifold and just look at the block.

This is one of the older external water pump blocks:

Pictures of yours would be useful for our reference.
