    30+ around town
42 on my drive to work which is a mix of A roads and motorway
I've had just over 50 mpg on a trip from the Midland to London and back on less than half a tank

I've got an 05 plated Audi tdi estate, s-line model, full leather interior climat control blah blah blah and I LOVE it.........it's 145 brake and for an estate I think it's more that enough. IMO the Audi is MUCH better to look at and sit in, I have had a Passat estate in the past, I will say the passat has more room, but it's gotta be the Audi everytime.....

I went from South Wales to the Lake District and back plus usage for a week a total of 853 miles, it cost me 65 at 1.19 per litre which gives 12 gallons. This equates to 71 mpg......
The Audi Tdi is noted for being one of the most ecoomical. The 1.9 has been quoted at doing up to 82mpg on a run at 56mph. Oh for your infor, the car was fully loaded with camping kit. No roof rack. 2 adults and a 15yr old, and I drove at 60 - 65 on the motorways.

    I have a A4 110 Tdi. RS-line spec.

Chipped to 150 ish bhp and a few other mods. It delivers 87mpg when taking it easy on motorways and still retains 55 when at 90mph. Runs on cooking oil and costs a combined 85p per litre. But to get 87mpg it needs BP Ultimate Diesel:thumbup: Also has 200k on the clock

I like the above model!! What year would I be looking at?

I wanted to sell my mk1 for ~4000 and buy a modern estate ~2000 and save on fuel. Trying to economise now I'm living on my own.

Pascal's A4 look like 97-99 model. I used to have a 98 2.5 tdi quatro but got rid of it[:x] [:^(]when the turbo blew[:^(] That used to get 45mpg even in the poor state it was in

Out of the 110 and 115 Tdis is there much of a difference performance or economy wise?

Mine is a base A4 110bhp Tdi SE.

To get it to R/S Line spec(which technically doesent exist for this model) Pre face lift B5 99reg or any B5/B6 for that matter

    Ive fitted:

    S4 Xenon headlamps and indicators
S4 Front suspension Hubs and Brakes
    S4 Steering wheel.
    S-Line Leather Gear Knob
RS4 Full Electric and Heated Recaro Leather interior with door cards, carbon fibre inserts
    S4 centre arm rest.
RS4 Bose sound system and speakers
    AP coil over kit
    18" Audi DTM Wheels
    S4 cruise control

As a guide i was going to put mine up for sale at 3,300 recently but decided it was too good to sell. You can get a good base model now for 2k and to spec it as mine another 3k based on second hand parts. New would cost you 10k

In reference to the different engines the 115 is a Pd lump available on facelift models, but the 110 gives better mpg and less to go wrong with them.

Mine has covered 200k now but has had a major mechanical overhaul. New turbo, recon head, fuel pump, injectors, gaskets, cambelt, clutch all in the last 2 years. All suspension parts have been done as well and it drives like new now.

The only thing with these cars is the front suspension arms need changing regualry due to the pot holes on the roads. Apart form that excellent motors

This is the closest you will find to mine but its a petrol and the spec is not as good.

Still a nice car. I prefer these B5's to the B6's whcih you are bodering on with a 3k budget

I'd rather a newer model though than spen extra on an older model as you'll never recoup your money

I think I'll pass on these TDI's then. May just opt for a petrol, we shall see once I've sold the mk1

I'm fully aware of this but the mrs moved out and I am likely to lose my job this side of Christmas so I have to bills to pay.

As much as I love my mk1 I have succumbed to modern creature comforts lol
