banding steelies

    i would like to get my steel wheels banded, does anybody no any sites with how tos on it, my mate shuld be up to it but just woundered if there is special ways and tools to use to get it perfect.........
    any help would be greatly appreciated

    i have had a look at doing this with g60 steelies but no one has been really helpful [8(]
    pm me if you get anywhere with it mate i am very intrested in this

    ok mate. as far as i can see you just need to cut the outer lip of, possibly mark and scribe it so its perfect, maybe even set a angle grinder up so it cuts a perfect line???
    the outer rim would be easy to get flat on a metal bench and a adj set square etc
    not too sure about the welding unbalancing the rims????
    would ed a balancer and a welder on the scene....

    my mate can weld very well, i will ask him when i get back in the country .
    but what about the extra metal needed for the girth?? how thick and how to get it perfectly round?

    you use a straight bit of metal and put it through a set of rollers which puts the bend in it to the perfect roundness of the rim:)

    i was too ate with my reply ont he rollers:lol:
    i kindaalready guess what was on most of that post, i wont be using a milling machine, but i can get on a lathe[:D]
    you could make a jig piece of **** to get it spot on first time me thinks, deffinatly gonna gve it a go!!!!!
    get my mate to final weld it up tho:lol: i havent welded properly in ages!!

    i like you guessed most of it, but was no way going to claim i no how to do it;)

    i dont trust my welding :lol: therefore i will drag a mate along to do it.
    make a build thread of how you get along so i can steal your ideas and claim i showed you how :lol:

    if you lathe the wheels in 2 and get the band straight it should be exactly as the wheel was in the first place no?[:s]

    there is always the fact that with the heat of running a full weld with warp the metal ever so slightly, if its in a jig clamped down tightly it will be perfectly level both sides(no buckels)
    and will also add piece of mind.......
    if it goes all right on the tester wheel i will post how i have done it.
    oh and they will never believe you stole the ideas from me because you smoke crack!!!!

    well i am looking at doing it when i eventually get round to fitting a berg cup kit[:^:]
    are there any nice 16 inch steelies come to think of it, need it for brake clearance[:s]

    Depends who finds out of course, but banded steels are illegal in the UK. Shouldn't pass an MOT if they are spotted.
