And as you won't/can't tell the insurance company you'll be uninsured. That and no testing on the welds and things might get interesting if you smack a pothole or curb. But hey don't let me put you off Barkstar
But who's going to test them? How? Who's going to give you a certificate/guarantee (even verbal) that they're ok, when they're illegal? When proper wheel manufacturers make wheels, they go through intense destructive testing to ensure that the wheels are made correctly. I know people in the US/other parts of the world use them, but would you really ever trust them? If I was wanting wide steels, I'd be looking at companies like Weller.
i shall make a test set, put then on a corsa and drive at kerbs at various angles/speeds i need to find a bigger lathe b4 i go ahead and give it a go now, my mates is too small[:^(] i dont intend to use them every day, would just be a show thing etc but f the welds are good and the workman ships good then i cant see how they would fail, no as if the dish is going to be 3inches+ i would only ad a band in of 1 - 1.5 inches, still could fail i no................
fair enough if you dont drive on them, get to the show and fit there but still, i can understand why u want them but isnt there a company that will make them
i did see 8x15 steels for sale a while back by r&a in et 15,20,25,30 i think. but they have gone bust now and im not sure where they got them from and no one else can help supplying them. i need 2 for my jetta gona give weller a bell in the new year and see if they can sort some out. might be worth a group buy benthejettaman wats a set 2 could be quit cheap
theres a thread on www.decked-dubs.com about this subject. theres a company in europe that sells wide steel wheels edit: it's in the garage section
i would seriously not recommend welding on a steelie!!! you will change the molecular makeup of the steel on the rim were you want it changed the least! also the skill of the welder and his abillty to manage the heat and therefore the warping is critical ! its not a "buzz it up, off you go thing" you need proper machanical welding equipment with a trained operative who holds the relevent welding codes , most definately not a man inna shed job HOWEVER if anybody does come across a suppier who can get hold of 8/15 steelies i would like to know about it is that what G60's came with
I think I did a set when I was a kid, the first job I did on a lathe so a good while ago... well I chopped a set of outer rims off, then chopped a band from annother set of rims. I cant remember what happened now but I think we sent the lot off to what I believe to be a Lloyds certified welder. -edit- I think they were for a competition car so no MOT
why ?? i need some wheels that are very strange in size that will cost a fuggin fortune if they where alloys and they are going on a car that will abuse them so why alloys
