    Welcome..

Corsa huh? Well we won't lynch you just yet ;)

I'm sure you'll get loads of diferent answers to this one. 1.8 16v is perhaps the most popular engine swap. But then don't ask me I drive a lardy Mk3.

to many peeps have done a 1.8 16v in a mk1 but they will fit straight in but u will need mk 1 convertable drive shafts. i was gonna put a vr6 in 1 but i was told they are to heavy and u will need a cross member under the engine like the mk2,s. i think the mk1 should stay 1.8 8v as it is more throttle responsive

I have just picked up my newly converted mk1. went for a 2.0 16v, running KR cams and the original close ratio 1600 box.

    around 160bhp ish.

Well worth considering, absolutly flies and it's not particularly expensive.

Where abouts are you - if your anywhere near kent your welcome to come and have a look...

nah they go in on the standard shafts m8, only time you need to use the other shafts is if you use a late mk2 gearbox.

my mk1 is an 1800 16v on a 1600 mk1 gti 5 speed box using stock but brand new mk1 shafts

what difference does the gearbox make to the 1.816v?
better ratios is my guess ,enlighten the ignorant.

i'm going 2.0 16v too, should have it back by the end of November - can't wait!

IMHO this is the best option for a Mk1, as you get all the torque that the 1.8 16v misses low down, as well as loads of poke at the top. not bad for a setup using oem parts.

i'm sure you can spend thousands on 20v's and throttle bodies, but that's a completely different game.

I SPOKE TO SOMEONE THE OTHER WEEK WHO HAS 1.8 16V IN A MK1 AND HE,S GOT THE MK1 BOX HE SAID ITS 158BHP WHEN HE WAS ASKED HOW MUCH TOP END HE ABOUT 120 MPH. MY MK1 1.8 8V WITH 1.6 MK1 BOX DOES THE CLOCK 120+ SO WOT THE POINT OF PUTTING A 16V IN IT (AND I BET MINES QUICKER) 0-60 UNDER 9SECS THAT CARNT B BAD FOR A CAR WITH NOT MANY MODS

Mad20v's -It's basically an Audi 20v (NON TURBO) with custom crane cams, steel rods, worked head, throttle bodies and a few other bits, it puts out 200 at the wheels and revs to 8500
