I've owned my Lupo GTI for a year now and I've suddenly just started going off it. I've never been a fan of the Golf GTI BUT I love the R32, not the latest one but the one before with the twin exhausts at the back. Just wondered what they're like to own, up-keep etc.

And is the insurance and running costs really that bad? [:s]

compared to your lupo gti. yes.

if your bored of a lupo gti then its probably gonna take a bit more than an r32 to satisfy you.

    lupo gti's rock :p

An R32 is a huge step up! How about a VR6 or a GTI MK4, The 1.8T version?

That's interesting that because the VDub dealer said the R32 was a huge step up. Why do you think that too?

I dont think it is a huge step up. Yes the engine twice the size and yes it has twice the number of wheels driven. But the 32 is a fat car.

It depends on why you have gone off the lupo. Do you just want a change? do you need more room? etc etc.

The running cost will be more, insurance will be more but how old are you and what ncb do you have because you may find its not a lot more. Not sure what mpg you get out of the 32 but my mates lupo gti if not driven hard returns very good mpg.

If you just want a car thats more fun I dont think you will find it in the R32, but I cant think of many cars that are more fun then the lupo.

I get 26mpg on average out of my R32 and get around 300 miles out of a full tank of fuel which costs approx 55.

I've never driven a Lupo GTI so can't compare the fun factor but the R32 is definitely fun to drive and handles well.

Well my friend has been driving his 106 1.1 for 4 years and has just bought an R32, so thats more of a step up! I reckon if you want something more practicle, different and don't mind the costs, R32's are awesome cars! [:D]

depends on your driving style. 4wd will give you more traction but not necessarily much more grip.

I'd choose the lupo for the twisties, I would't care if it was faster or not, but it would be more fun.

well, i've never driven both, but i've heard that as the lupo is lighter it will thus be more nimble. makes sense to me. not saying the r32 will be boring, but it is a heavier car. 4wd doesn't necessarily make a car fun you know.

am sure someone who has driven both will be on shortly.

Waste of time mentioning R32s on this site;)

Most people on here have some kind of phobia against them.

Most of which haven't even driven one

    :lol::thumbup:;)
