I ran my '89 Valver on it last week... seemed to run ok... but did pink a bit under load. Never get that with optimax.....

The jury is still out at the moment.....

Problem is you need to pass a couple of tanks worth of BP stuff if you have been running optimax through the car before you get anywhere really on the comparison side of things.....

The BP Ultimate we get in the UK is still only 97 RON (see here). Early indications from the Scooby boards are that it does not show the same performance benefits as Optimax.

also worth noting that RON values decrease if the fuel's been sittin there under the fourcourt for a while, so its best to go to a busy petrol station (as they replenish their stocks more often).

The RON doesn't decrease if its been in the forecourt for a while.BPs words, not mine. No prizes for guessing where I work

So do most people see a noticeable advantage when using optimax over regular unleaded? Never been sure how much difference it makes to my mk2 16v.... always wonder if it is just "placebo" effect.

I definately see a difference..... My MFA indicates a drop in average MPG of about 10 MPG if I use normal unleaded.

The car runs like a bag of sh*te too......

It's an '89 Mk2 Valver with 185k on the clock!

RON does decrease if it has been in the forecourt for a while, it is around 1 ron or so pr year, so nothing to think about when filling up

I noticed a very slight difference in throttle response on optimax and no MPG difference whatsoever.
