Just tried to get the free Sky broadband service but they say due to the aera I'm in I'd have to pay a one of fee of 40 and 17 a month. Don't use the internet at home enough to justify that. Any suggestions who to go with, not worried about wireless or anything, just want a better service than dial up at home that doesn't cost the earth! Thanks guys.
http://www.broadbandchecker.co.uk/?GTSE=goog>KW=broadband http://www.broadbandgenie.co.uk/ Have a look at those for a start off. Sky have a shocking rep anyway, customer service and reliability wise. My mates who are serious techies tend to be with PlusNet. I'm on BT option 1 and pretty happy with it. I particularly like the free btopenzone minutes which I use in airports, etc. No use unless you have a laptop though.
Thanks, looks like I may have to spend a bit more than I want to really! I'd prefer it to be BT aswell, just easyer than having to deal with yet another compnay!
Another silly question while I'm at it!! How many GBs does the average internet user use, its ok saying 9.99 a month with a 1gb limit but would I stand to use more than that just by going on a few forums and doing some ebaying in the evenings?
You should be fine at that, unless you're doing loads of downloading - games, videos, etc. I started on the lowest limit with BT, and they've increased it since I started, to keep up with the competition so I wouldn't worry too much if you think it's close... just check the small print to see if they can charge you for extra, or if they'll just send you a few alerts and maybe ask you to change plans.
Signed up to plusnet last night, just over a tenner for a couple of gbs to be safe, cheers Mike, owe you a beer!
plus.net can be a bit of an ****, changing their policies all the time and capping downloads and bandwith and i wouldn't call myself a real heavy user either. i download stuff, but not that much, and i barely get over 10kbps downloads
yes m8 virgin/ntl just look up surfboard modems on ebay as you can clone them so you get max broadband speeds for free i bought mine around 10-12 months ago and been running fine and only payed 20 for the modem, also look up dbox 2 aswell as they can decript the tv channels so you get all the tv channels for free aswell lol
i have just had ntl/virgin disconnected and sky comming tomorrow- sounds like i might be in for some fun and games!
Is the internet provided by virgin any good, reliable and fast? or is it better to got with BT and ADSL provider? Cheers
Don't no what mine runs at, went from dial up to it so its going to seem fast to me! Should of put me down as recommending you, I'd of got a discount then!
