A bit more work on the vernier and CAD machine.......

The reluctor ring will probably have to sit into a machined part of the Mk5 cv, with a nice tight fit - maybe fixed using Araldite or similar.

if you use early 280mm Passat B3 VR6 discs 99% sure no need to machine anything as they use 4 stud carriers and 5 stud flanges :)

part number is 357615301A, if you feed that into ebay you should find some

Cheers John - yes, I noted that part number earlier up this page following your advice (I've been watching those NOS discs on ebay).
Thing is, I would like to stay with the 4-stud for now, as I have a set of Compomotive wheels fresh and ready to use....I'd buy some 5-stud if they popped up on my radar.
Dual-drilling gives me best of both, although I realise disc swap might be on the cards.

fair enough, if you do bag em let us know how you go, as the bit above about machining for clearance has me thinking that possibly the passat discs may need the same work!

If you order your discs from MTEC website you can add on the 25 PCD change to any set to any PCD. I've got my mk3 280 discs with the 5x100 and 4x100 PCD. And they obviously have the specialist kit to do it. And the 4x100 is 12mm opposed to 14mm of the 5x100.

I've been beavering away with my new hydraulic press, sorting out a fresh set of mk2 knuckles which I dug out of my parts store, and equipping them with new bearings & mk3 hubs of 5x100 flavour redrilled for 4x100.
Also lining up various bits and pieces to get the mk5 abs wheel pickups installed.
    Pics to follow

Mk5 Hubs tidied up and zinc painted.

Drilling 4x100 now fathomed - made tricky due to other holes (now redundant) for old abs ring.

ABS sensor mount slugs bought and being trialled.....will need to weld these to the knuckles....and the rear stub axle (will look at that later).

I've had an even worse time with the ABS rings, I have to keep them... And I've had to cut portions out of them to fit the new 4x100 bolt clearances. Hopefully I haven't distorted them or I'll have to try again with another new pair

Unboxed the polo rear stubs and the new hubs....just looking at what faces me with the abs sensors I have to mount....the existing ones arent compatible with the modern magnetic reluctor rings.

You will note the old sensors "look" at the side of the hub rear spigot - but the new hubs (later polo 9n), have magnetic rings that face inside.

Moving along with the front knuckles now......the hubs are away being redrilled for 4x100.

One knuckle cleaned up, prepped and now the old ABS sensor mounting tab is carefully cut off to make way for new sensor.

Hole drilled for sensor to poke through. Sensor offered up to test fit. Reluctor ring offered up again for test fit.

Web cut off of the reluctor ring to allow it to sit farther up the CV......but still going to need a bit machining off the CV to provide a bit more clearance for new sensor.

    The view from other side.

Mounting slug now welded to knuckle, and new sensor test fitted.

Bit of additional tube to support abs sensor.

Needs a bit of tidying and then painting but you get the idea :)

Knuckle was painted two coats of POR-15, and the hub was treated to zinc rich aerosol (weld-thru primer).

New bearing and hub pressed in with my 60-quid cheapo ebay hydraulic press which has been invaluable!

They look fantastic!! And ace idea about the abs sensor. So it picks up from a ring on the CV instead?

Yes - it's much finer resolution with the new system - speed accurate from 0mph, and direction sensing too apparently.

Going to machine small amount off the CV to allow clearance for ring, and then I have some metal bond to stick it with.

Hope the rears are much easier!!
