    1. Can it be used on non-ferrous parts - e.g ally?

    2. What about parts with chrome plating - I don't want to go poisioning myself?

should def be able to do it to ally and chrome - assuming u mean the vinegar. Don't know about the caustic soda/battery way - pretty sure you can't do that with chromed parts.

Dunked one of my hubs in vinegar last night - will post up before and after pics tomorrow

Anybody tried it with cola? That's supposed to work well isn't it? Or was that just for de-greasing etc. Tesco Value cola is 15p for a 2l bottle - so this is almost a quarter of the price of vinegar!!!!! If you are a health freak I guess you could use diet  and you'd also avoid sticky finger syndrome [:D]

here's a before and after pic of my hubs - the one on the left has been in vinegar for 2 days..... sorry - the one on the right

I reckon it needs another day to get it totoally gleaming - will post another pic when they are both done. Then I might try the coke method - see how that goes.

Proof enough that Tesco extra value coca cola is not fit for human consumption

    hi,

sorry, forgot to take a pic but it had improved over the pic posted.

yup - i used it neat - i put the hub in a bucket, poured about 5 bottles of vinegar in (about 500ml each) realised this wasn't going to cover the hub, so filled a couple of tesco foodbags (sealable) with water and put them in the bucket too to fill the gaps and bring the level of the vinegar up (hope that makes sense) could prob just fill the empty bottle up with water instead i guess.....

Never let it be said I'm not special!!!!!!!!!

I took this this morning (to stop the haters (not mentioning any names but Neil Kaye you know who you are  ))

I think this quite artistically shows the difference between the one that was in for 2 days to the one that was in for 3 and the difference they both have to my painted (and peeling) garage floor

my brother also filled the empty vinegar bottles with water to raise the level in the tub.

got a manifold in Tescos finest coke, 17p for two litres, see how it fairs.
