It's fairly tight for space to put one their, alot of the toolings from the westmoreland factory in the states when they stopped production their.
oh so strange. why are they like 5 marks behind us lol just such a mish mash. mk1 back, mk2 front, polo interior, audi type wheels. can u not buy newer golfs in SA?
looks like someones done a lucky dip in the VAG parts bin and stuck it all on wish my engine bay was that clean!
i kinda like it, its pretty crazy they are still building them, how about shipping a few over!!! would be nice if they did a 4x4 one ideally with a 20v in could be cool....
i have to say i quite like it, the bits i dont like could be easily changed, wish it was a 3-door though
crap! lol. It's not because it's different, it's because its crap looking. a bad bodykit with chav-esque lights. I do like the retro steering wheel, but it looks totally out of place. the whole thing is very badly cobbled together imo. it looks like a 17 year old designed it.
I haven't posted anything yet but I got back from the SA just before Christmas and rented a 1.4 Citi while I was out there with 4,000 KM on the clock. Yes the accelerator is floor hinged, the rear lights have been redesigned and the front door glass is all one piece. However with the brakes they have adopted a torsion bar that is almost identical to the autocavan brake conversion. The rear wiper is now part of the glass rather than the hatch. Also the 1.4 I drove had a big block engine, EFI and the AFM and induction on the left (looking from front and as per the pics). And the gearbox selector rods were weighted. It drove OK but had skinny 175 70 14 section tyres and soggy suspension due to the fact you still get dirt roads in SA.
looks like a mk1 with a mk2 grill and bumpers and lupo gti alloys! id love one if a)it was three door without the dodgy C pillar crease! b) looked more like the series 2 mk1 golf! or even the series 1
It just looks how a mk1 golf would/should look if it had evolved alongside the present range of vw's. Saying a modern version is wrong is like saying beetle's shouldn't have got rid of oval rear windows, true it may be stylish but it's still clinging onto the past for no reason. Would love to get one on import.
surely this is what a mk1 golf would like if it had evolved? I'm not trying to start b*tching btw, just discussion. I respect peoples opinion, although I am surprised at the reaction.
You could never import one... surely it would have to pass modern EU safety tests / emissions test? Unless you imported a 2nd hand one...think its prob a grey area though. This model is clearly really cheap for VW SA to make... surprised they haven't replaced the model with a more modern polo based car, although I suppose Polo doesn't have the cache of a Golf and its so far removed from a Mk5 to compare.
Don't quote me but I'm 95% sure I read in a copy of VW motoring about a year ago that theres a company in this country that is importing them. Just the normal city golf that is.
