Just sorting out my Woerthersee pics (yeah, yeah I still haven't done them  ) and I found this:

It's a really crappy blurred pic, taken on the Autobahn as the traffic was leaving the show. Not sure if you can make out, but it's badged as a TDI, and it DEFINITELY was a TDI - you could hear the familiar diesel rattle! No mistake...

    [:s] What's that all about!?

Cant help but think that those diesel engines would be terrible in the MK2 chassis

The newer cars have so much more sound deadeing, and i suspect that the new cars engine mounts are better to isolate the engine from the cassis, and that would be lost in a conversion due to changing mounts.

May be wrong, but pretty sure i read that somewhere....

I believe the Mk4 Golf Engine mounts have been used & mounting points have been welded into the chassis legs.

Apart from the engine that is stunning. I know it's probably faster than mine blah blah, but they sound poo, whereas the V6 in mine sounds yummy!

If you ever get chance to see any rounds of the VW Racing Cup, the BP Ultimate sponsered Mk4 Golf TDI actually sounds pretty sweet. Not as sexy as the VR, but on par with an 8V GTI with straight thro' exhaust.....maybe!
