Hi all don't know if there is suppose to be a bottom cover on these or not, but if not has anyone used anything from another car to protect the belts from the wet?

Reason i am asking is as it's got so wet lately and my car is so low, the water is really effecting the power steering belt! It's a new belt btw and is at the correct torque :) maybe i should have roughened up the inner pulleys when i last changed them :)

    Cheers

If you mean on the Mk2 listed in your sig, then there should be a plastic shield on the bottom of the drivers inner wing - nothing directly over the belts though

EDIT: F*ck, Johnny got there first!!!

guys there IS a belt cover for the PAS belt. a lot of mk2s don't have them fitted.

Mine didn't and I suffered lots of scary PAS belt slip in the wet.

I fitted one (about 20 quid from VAG) and the problem went away.

there are two types, one for big-bumper and one for small bumper models

like mike says it doesn't cover the whole belt, but it does protect against splashes which is what you want really I guess.

don't have the part numbers to hand but I'm sure someone else can help!

Should be able to pick one of those up in a scrappy I'd think...

If that doesn't stop it, or you already have it, you could bend a sheet of thin ally plate to cover the bottom of the pulleys, and attach it to the bottom of the block somewhere, or better still the front X-member (as then it wouldn't flex as much with engine movement)

Or of you havbe a small bumper model, you could try and find a

    191 805 681 J SOUND DEADENERMANUAL GEARBOX

Off a MK2 diesel, its a huge engine undertray it bolts to the lower front panel and the back of the subframe, I wanted a new one as the sound deadning material is knackered as it got full of oil, grease and other crap, but they cost a small fortune from the stealers.

The diagram is a bit hard to get your head round

Its from underneath looking upwards into the engine bay, you can see the engine cross member on the top picture and the suspension spring :)

I know stupid price, best find one thats being broken, MK1 off here was breaking one, might still have the undertray, they can bee anyoing though I've lost a few tools down there and you have to then drop the front or back of the tray to get them out, sometimes if I've been working on it allk day I forget, lost a maglite that way [:$], I'm not to bothered about a dirty bay as bieing a mech diesel I just pressure wash the engine when I do the car.

248 - for that small cover???

That's crazy, If anyone has one it could be a good money spinner, take it off and cover the outside of it grease, then paper mashe it, leave it set then use that as a mould and fiber glass it! (I think that's how you do it :))

Great, i'll get one of these ASAP, thanks guyz.

Quick question, if you look at the top diagram, right at the top of it there is a bar with two bolts in it, when looking at the underside last night i noticed that one of the bolts was missing! what is this bar, what does it do and should i replace the bolt?
