Dave. Was tidying the stores and found a solid lifter 8v head. Any use to you? Alu is a little "furry".
I started to clean up the block using wire brushes and DEOX C gel. It works but is slow progress, so decided to use sand blasting instead. I was going to try my 'Spot Blaster' but I can't find it! So made a rough screen out of plastic and kitted up. This is the basic suction blaster. This is the kit. This is the result with a couple of coats of Halford's Engine Enamel. Setting up for side 2 I had to remove the studs. I used 2 shoulder nuts and this BETA ratchet spanner on the back nut. This type of spanner is great for tie-rods as it allows one to get a better grip on the rod flats than an open ended spanner. There was so much sand flying about, and so much dust that I found it too dirty and difficult to see when I did the first side so I built a box around side 2. The glass is a piece of " plate glass that was just lying around! Well lit, vented and less wasted sand! The halogen light does not show areas where the blast is not 100% but fluorescent does! A bit of finishing off to do today!
Tris. You really are a thoughtful sSon! Don't know what to say really? If I was building the VWMS car it would be 100% yes! I was only intending to get the car back on the road and not modify it at all. Need to think about it if that's OK with you? sDa.
Finished painting the block. My compressor is fairly new from Lidl. I left my old compressor at the farm in the UK back in 2001. It was dirt cheap! The original filters were plastic and I broke them off easily. To replace them I used some spare filters from a face mask. Adaptors look crude cos. I could not get one reducer of either material or a matching pair to give the 1" to " reduction. The filter/lube is from Aldi. Again I could not get the correct 10mm pipe to ?" so I had to modify the fittings by brazing 2 together with silver solder. Pipe fitting drilled out and BSP fitting filed down to fit the drilling.
Done zero on the car or engine. Engine because the Swallows are pi55ed with me in the barn so I left them to get on with fledging their chicks. Body because I can't find my 'Spot Blaster'! I have bought a new one for 10 on ebay and 25 kg. of 20.40 Garnet from Germany. 25 delivered. Cheaper than you lot going to Machine Mart! Also, a big domestic disaster occurred! The wet shower floor has leaked, rotted the support woodwork, and collapsed! I spent a fortune on tanking materials, vinyl liner and liquid liner, but a small leak has caused a lot of damage. I have been chiseling off the tiles and cement and then cutting out the rotten woodwork with a chisel again. I'm fitting a shower tray, on it's way from Victoria Plumbing for 85! Finished the coffee machine. Re-wired. Bit of a problem as the photos I took of the wiring are on my phone which now refuses to communicate with our computers using either bluetooth or cable. I had to work out what went where and got it spot on. The biggest problem was the 'NEUTRAL' is white not blue on the main power feed. Threw me for a while! The tools are PROXXON from Germany, via ebay. I needed new TORX sockets as I have destroyed the cheapo ones I had. A quality set is quite expensive and while I was looking came across this " set and it was not a lot more than just TORX plus it has some 'E' type sockets as well. Nice touch is that the screwdriver handle can be used as an extension! Just need to get the label off the original 'sheet' of paint and stick it on. Stripped again! The coffee boiler is fine, but the steam boiler does not work. Turns out that when the steam thermostat burnt out the boiler overheated and melted the thermal fuses on the boiler. New OEM ones are 7.50 each plus delivery. I found a pack of 5 NEC ones for 5 delivered on ebay. They are on their way! I have re-set the temp. gauges as the pointers were both loose!?
Disaster #1: Tarp has ripped on the roof! Disaster #2: I found my old spot blaster. It was in the machinery room. I found it when I was moving one of the consumer units. I shall have 2 by next week. The new one is a different design with a separate media canister. Lainey bought me a new garage floor from ALDI! I have cleaned off all of the seam sealer/shutz from the RH chassis! I have made some plates for the air-box feet. I shall bond them in when I have removed the rust from the existing rotten holes! The former is a ground down wheel stud. The shape also suits rad. supports! Bonded and setting! This is the shower floor with rotten wood removed. Consumer unit move! The first photo is the unit I fitted for the main house before I built the extension. This unit feeds the extension and outdoors. Heat pump, barn, sheds, etc.. Unit moved just need to make a cover plate for the ducting. Bit more room under the stairs. Just need to plaster board, etc..
You have been busy! Nice electrical install, did you do that too? Chassis looking good too! Hope the swallows are in a better mood, maybe make a peace offering of fresh coffee!
Yes Henry, all my own work. 100% of the re-build from a semi-derelict barn is all mine! Spot blasted this bit garnet = Very Slow Put a plastic bag around the chassis and free blasted with sand. Much quicker! Primed with U-POL WELD #2 which I thought might be close to VW's zinc primer dip!? I would appreciate any comments on the use of this paint. I wonder how it will react with U-POL's 'TIGER' seam sealer? I'll contact them tomorrow to ask what they think. Coffee Machine works, but only 90%. I STUPIDLY did not clean out the steam valve so steam is not as powerful as it should be. Spent Saturday cleaning out the kitchen drains! Took all day as they were blocked solid! Probably due to not having the septic tank emptied and the crap backed up to the house. Septic tank empty now!
Sorry Henry, forgot to reply regarding the swallows! Today's disaster! We get massive winds here. There are 4 Stika Spruce, leaning on others, which were brought down this last winter! Usually get 2 or 3 blown over every year. The 200 we started with are now down to 170!
Hi Dave. I've been trying to pm you but my inbox is saying I can't as it's full...but it's not now (hethum!!). If you still need it I've found you an EV at last. No problem if you don't need it as I'll keep it for mine.
