Timely advice this, cleaned all the tappets up, worked a dream, now can hardly hear a thing - must be the first time they were done at 146,000 for sure. Another bonus is the clean exhaust, prob due to new valve seals....now surely nothing else can go wrong. Still not sure why oil got in the water, the head gasket looked fine, it could have been the oil cooler which I also changed but didn't check the old one. What else could it have been?
I think GTI's post has all the info you need. Perhaps mhead doesn't want people to know so he can sell all his tappets on ebay
