Rolling road day at Stealth, I`ll have to get mine finished and driven down, do you have to book a place Gary? (This is assuming the G hasn`t grenaded beforehand).
Velly's organising the day Keith, think there's about 24 names on the list already, but you know what it's like He's got a thread running in club gti events section.
Cheers, will have to come down and have a natter, if no-one mentions supercharger, helix clutch, megasquirt I should be able to get though the day with my bollox still intact (and a home to go to)
She say`s I`ve made it sound stupid , frightens people when it dumps boost, it`s effin loud Could bring the lappy down and take a log, cheap RR tune
if yours is normally aspirated then i reckon my torque figures should be on par or better than yours or any other (NA) 8v on the forum. even without the nitrous. (mind you, if the engine isn't finished by then i'll just have to bring my pushbike and pedal hard!
some time i wish mine was back on carbs. im missing the roar and flames out the back....but then again im not missing the 20mpg
why pay for a 160bhp carb setup, when you could have a 155-160bhp k-jet setup for 60 ish? GVK can't wait to see some results form the carb engines
There's a serious amount of rubbish talked about carbs. They're not the ultimate answer to tuning. The sound doesn't make up for poor economy. But they do offer a few advantages. Answers to a couple of the common myths: 1. "You need 45s for a 2.0."/"They give poor fuel economy." Of course you're going to get poor fuel economy if you fit massive chokes trying to chase the peak power figures. A lot of tuners seem to play along with this "bigger is better" myth, probably because people are impressed by the big power figure and for some reason seem happy enough to accept 20mpg from an engine which is probably slower than a better tuned setup with a lower peak power figure. 2. "They're expensive to set up." Mine cost me 40+VAT for the setup. That's cheaper than the essential Stealth setup and WUR mod for K-Jet isn't it? As far as going out of tune, how does a choke or a jet go out of tune? There aren't actually many parts that can go out of balance. Here's a plot for a 9A with Dellorto 40s (32mm chokes), KR cams (otherwise standard), cast VW exhaust manifold and Jetex 2.25" exhaust: Click... I've not got an axe to grind here just because I've got carbs on my own engine, I'm just trying to add a more balanced view to the discussion. Part of the reason I fitted them to my car was that I wanted to try and figure out the truth behind some of these myths. Would I fit carbs if I built it all over again? No, I'd fit DIY throttle bodies and MegaSquirt. But I think twin sidedraughts definitely offer a few advantages over K-Jet. It's bad setups and people talking bullsh[/i]it that means it's difficult to have a proper discussion about what the advantages and disadvantages of carbs really are.
Good post Greg, much more reasonable than "they sound good" full stop. I still would like to see though, a similar mechanically specced engine to mine, but on well set up carbs on the same rollers on the same day, to see what's so good about them, or not.
