Now don't take this the wrong way, I'm not blowing my own trumpet here or being abig head because I'm not like that at all. But, I've just realised just how many "important" people I know in the VW scene and how many people know me too. People who run shows, tuning firms, mags and top show cars and all that. I think it's a great community, and I'm happy to be playing a part in it all. My question is, do you regard yourself as a "known" on the scene? do you even want to be?
Interesting question! At shows people always seem to know who I am, especially aircooled peeps, not because of my car particularly but because I post crap on forums all day! It's nice when I introduce myself and people recognise the name, but it doesn't bother me if they don't at all. It's always great to meet someone 'big' in the scene and find they are just normal (?) down-to-earth people too!
I got a "So you're Drew" at last years Inters. Not sure if that is good or bad. Depends what you mean by important really... Respected tuner / modifier / club rep / organiser / subject expert / show winner ... or most famousest mk1 on telly-ist / club gti contributing writer ..... Cheers, Drew. Edited by: drew
hmmm...its a good one, but you either know me or you don't. But its good to goto shows and events and you bump into people and they know who u r or even that u know who they are. I think we would all like to be known for one thing or another
I think its great when 'well known' peeps are down to earth. These 'big headed' types just pee everyone off. Its like, 'No one cares how nice/fast your car is coz you are a kn*b!'
Too true. There's nowt worse than seeing people sturtting around the shows giving it the big I am. Thankfully, no one has come on here yet and said "I met PhatVR6 the other day and he was a right whining miserable old b4stard" cue 1990 to come on and say exactly that.....
i was thinking this last night at no rice. about 10 people who i didnt even know said.....'hey recardo!' im a pup in the vw scene tho but it does make you feel part of a family! i plan on sticking around thats for sure! im a bit more known in the 2 wheeled world...
I'd say I was 'known' purely from the fact Im on nearly every bloody VW forum and my feature I spose.. Its quite a good thing, because you meet alot of good people and often get good deals on things e.t.c
I dont care if anybody knows me and I know nobody that goes to meets/shows. I actually like being the grey man. I would feel daft if I went up to someone and asked if he was "PhatVR6" etc. I think that in forums people often come out more as it is less interactive on a personnel front.
....I think peeps know me, and my silver MK1 through Westside...well the oldtimers should, the youngguns these days might not... I was first seen in PVW 1996 Westside shoot, It had Nik Launders G60 MK2 on the cover. Been in the VW scence since 1992 I've met some good peeps along the way who are top contacts, not only in the UK but abroad as well. If I can help anyone in the VW scene, I will. Does that make me known...
