Good morning. I purchased a cambelt kit from www.buycartparts.co.uk and noticed some white scuff marks on the smooth side of the belt. They have said it would not effect the running of the belt and have offered a 5 refund. I don't really care about 5 because a engine rebuild costs more than that I would have thought Do you think it should be okay?
looks to me like the manufacturer details have been sanded off? doesn't look like it would be a problem to me, but for the sake of a few quit I would prefer a nice belt with no marks on. maybe ask them if they would garauntee a replacement engine if the belt did snap
Why would they sand it off It was sold as a genuine gates kit. Cam with pump, roller , belt and tensioner. It was around 20 cheaper than ebay. I wonder if people are sanding off these details and selling them as gates?
It's possible that it was a return and a previous buyer cheated them. Here's my Gates belt I just opened for you
Thing is. I have to go into all the effort now to pay for postage to god knows where. Why should customer lose in this way. Shall I report to Gates for counterfeit belt? They have a section on their website. Also How do I check if the water pump , tensioner and roller are genuine. But before I jump to conclusion I will check if it has this powergrip written on it. I do remember seeing this before somewhere Wether is was on the box or on the belt. Pretty sure I saw these details on the box.
Perhaps they are selling cheap crap off as Gates when it's not last time I bought a gates belt it had there name on it as well as powergrip.
Thank you to the gentleman who posted that pic. Is there any chance of checking if the Waterpump and tensioner is genuine?
pick up the phone and speak to gates , im sure theyd be happy to help you i.d genuine parts and glad to hear about it if some dodgy site is seling knock off items as thiers
Please see further pic attached of the roller: There seems to be a plastic missing from the edge of the roller. I think this is some sort of return items. The belt is dodgy with scuff marks and the roller which was not even in a packet seems to be broken. The tensioner was also not in a packet. The only item that is sealed was the water pump. The belt was loose and unpacked. LOL
For the sake of money & time spent on an engine rebuild, I personally would not use that. Cut your losses, send that pile back for a refund & get a new kit.
they are now asking me to take pictures of the old parts next to the new parts so I will do that. Luckly the old parts I had taken off the engine. I won't let them get away with this one.
For reasons like that I always buy from the local motor factors. And if you haggle they're usually just as cheap.
lol. got send another one .same white marks all over the belt. it's genuine gates. box was sealed. I think they must use a white powder at the factory when making the belts.
It's deffo GATES. it's got the power grip logo with the numbers on. I just think it needs a wipe with a cloth.
But does it have the white printing on it like the above picture with the gates logo? If it doesnt have that, send it back. The box could be a fake, they are good at making copy cardboard boxes (I run a packaging company)
