As you can see it has already ground some of it away :/ Ive replaced the front engine mount for a new one and it has 'improved' but I am thinking will this fix it: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-Mk2-GTI-16V-G60-VR6-Vibra-Technics-Rear-Mount-F-Rd-VAG970M-Vibratechnics-/110843260350?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item19cec5edbe Any advice?
Mine is quite close, but I'm now using a G60 rear engine bracket, which has pushed the engine slightly forward and it doesn't catch anymore. I've also got a solid front mount. Are you using the standard 8v rear bracket ? I had the same problem on my old AGU engine. It was catching now and again.
As Rich said, engine mount brackets can play a part in positioning/pitch of the engine and how close it is to the master cylinder. We need to know which you have fitted. Ibiza Cupra/Ford Focus mater cylinder is shorter and avoids catching the cam pulley.
I ovaled the rear mounting bolting hole (using mk3 rear bracket) by about 8mm and that gave me enough clearance to also put the timing cover. I also installed vibra mounts. I have also fabricated myself the front & gearbox mount

Is this what I would need? There is 2 port and 4 port would it be the 4 port? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Seat-Ibiza-Cupra-brake-master-cylinder-modified-to-fit-Mk2-Mk3-Golf-or-Corrado-/121334384780?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c4017c88c
can use either 2 or 4 port, if you get a 2 port use a T piece to join 2 pipes together as per factory mk2 golf setup, make sure the holes are all m10x1 for an easy life http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.php?248164
I'd suggest that if the gap is that big static, and it's moving enough under load to make contact, you need to look at uprating your engine mounts
Thanks for the help! I have bought this in the end.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Seat-Ibiza-Cupra-brake-master-cylinder-modified-to-fit-Mk2-Mk3-Golf-or-Corrado-/121334384080?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c4017c5d0 Ill just block off the other side which you cant see anyway Ill fit it as a nice little upgrade and go from there. Ill let you know if it solves the problem and with pictures Thankyou!
What mounts are you using all round? Do a search on here for what I used I have no issues at all and have not had to grind or trim anything.
replaced with a cupra M/S Now its catching the belt lol If you look closely you can see the mark on the belt Im using mk2 mounts and I am going to try mk3 rear mounts to see if they help Atleast its not as bad as it was!The noise was horrific going round a sharp bend
Not sure why it's doing this ! What bracket is attached to the back of the engine ? I would personally change that belt when you manage to push the engine slightly forward, just for piece of mind
As some have asked, what gearbox are you using and with what mounts. I was just at a mk2 which had the same issue and he had used mk2 8V front mount/bracket with an 02J box pushing the engine up and backwards.
I had a similar problem when I used the stock 8v mk2 mounts with an 020 gearbox, I fixed it by moving to a mk3 subframe (mk2 wishbones + steering arms keeping the mk2 track) and I also used a mk1 seat toledo tdi front cross member and all of the mounts + 02a gearbox. now I have enough room to fit the cam cover and it doesn't catch. btw when i tried to fix the problem before the mk3 subframe I tried a solid front mount still had the issue. it felt better but didn't fix it
what is the rear mount bracket from (the first picture) as apparently you can get a longer mount from a g60 corrado, i didnt go that route because i had all the bits to go mk3 mounts kicking around me so made no sense to spend extra money just meant a change of subframe for me oh btw you might want to put some sort of heat protection on your stearing uj boot as when i had my k03 setup it got warm enough to make the rubber brittle and crack.
Right I need to find the passat rear bracket if anyone knows of one? Also does anyone know the part number?
Have a look on the corrado forum - get one of a 4 cyl corrado that people are breaking. EG 16v or G60 not VR6
You will need all 3 vibra technics mounts or similar when running one of these engines with good power That rear drivers mount has a fair bit of movement in it under load
