to be honest I don't like the tailpipes Paul. Something to match OEM exactly would look better. The state of the backbox is a worry too. My 16v Jetex aluminised system is really pretty quiet. Careful fettling of the hangers is required to get a good fit though. Any metal to metal contact will add noise and resonance. The Jetex backbox requires a dent knocking into it on the left side to prevent it hitting the lower shock bolt. This problem is even worse if like me you have an uprated rear ARB... Can't see it getting noticeably louder when I fit my 4 branch either
Have to agree, I'd like a stainless steel system but the tailpipe has to look standard, don't want it to stand out.
might be a problems with galvanic corrosion.. like audi have when building steel/ali chassis. they get rould it by insulating (electrically) one from the other but on an exhaust you would need said insulation to resist heat too. assuming you could find a high temp polymer or ceramic you then got probs with differing rates of thermal expansion ie lots of cracking. at which point my head starts to hurt and i switch back to good old mild steel
With your luck mate I'd go and buy a stock exhaust. Saw a 16v OEM system on ebay for 50 quid. Might be a good choice, for all people like the aftermarket, the stockers obviously last a long time.
Very interesting. Not too sure that with the CVD system, that you're not getting some molecular bonding? A bit like when you braze or bronze weld. Could be that if they are bonding, at molecular level, the electrolitic corrosion would take place? Shame I have'nt got the odd 10,000+ to have a go!
^^ think your prob right about molecular bonding.. in which case insulation is a non-starter. iirc titanium is quite inert so maybe galvanic corrosion wouldnt be the prob.. maybe the continuous reheating would cause the bonds to break down? using coated ali is certainly an interesting idea.. seems to be loads of new techniques for using materials/composites being found these days. like you say be nice to have xxx... to throw at stuff like this!
going back to the material conversation, I have a new Jetex mild steel system on my abf and a mate of mine has the stainless one on his 9a. his exhaust is a fair bit louder than mine, both at idle and when flooring it! So it does seem to support the idea that the materials used can really effect the noise output
2.5 inch is way too big for your 8v anyway. It'll be boomy, and lose you power, as well as weighing half a ton. I had a 2" jetex stainless system on an 8v and it was fine for noise. The mild steel 2" system on the track scirocco is about 80 db on noise checks, so nice and quiet.
yeah iv had a "2 jetex on both my 8v 2.0 bvh and abf 16v. nice and quiet and gained the abf some torque! d_d proven!
