You might be able to get away with it, some have - spray a couple of cans of brake cleaner down the same hole, or fill it with petrol and slip the clutch a bit - a million methods of solving it, but if you've really soaked it then you are in for a new clutch.....
No, you need a solvent. Thinners or petrol, trich, anything that evaporates off..... then slip the clutch at a standstill and see if it does the job once it's leaked out all over the drive. If it does, no problem. If not, try slipping the clutch until it stinks and then more, let it cool down and see how it is.
cheers mate, I did poor petrol in as soon as i realised it wan't the g/box then ran the car it did pull away ok on and off of my drive. Do you reckon the clutch would suddenly give up on me as i drive normally? I may put another wash of petrol trhu tomorrow
Slip it a lot for a few days - if it's dead it will generally show up right away, you may have been lucky! Don't worry about it, you are about the billionth person to top up the gearbox through the wrong hole........
