The simplest answer to this annoying Windows Messenger is to make sure you exit both MSN and Windows Messenger. Right click your task bar, and select Task Manager. In the new window that pops up, go to the 2nd tab called Processes. Look in that list for an entry named MSNMSG.EXE - right click on it and End Process. Then quickly go into Windows Explorer, into your C: drive, into the Program Files folder and rename the Messenger folder to something else. Sorted.
and i thought i was the only one that had this annoying problem.....so crap it logs me out coz it says im signed it at another location.....lol the other location being someonewhere else on my desk top gotta love microsoft
If you go into control panel, add/remove programs, add/remove windows components, uncheck windows messenger. Then delete all the windows messenger files in program files and you should have no more problems. Worked for me
Thats because outlook express uses WINDOWS Messenger to add your address list from your MSN contact list. Its integrated. Use proper outlook, or even better, use a proper mail client and you wont have this problem.
Dunno why this is still alive... That's the one you want. In OE try fiddling with the options so it doesn't automatically add contacts from your MSN list, which should solve any mystery loading of the software (which should be deleted anyway). Tom
i do believe that the recently released service pack 2 from microsoft turns windows messenger off by default.
I found that the best way of explaining to someone a way of stopping it popping up and loading (especially then they dont know command line and registry tweaks), is to simply rename the executable file from the Windows Messenger folder in Program Files.
I have a program that uninstall's messenger from xp if anyone want's it pm me your email addy and I'll send it , it's only about half a meg
