Hi as title my rear drum brakes on the 1.8
Driver have seen better days I'm sure so gonna get a kit to rebuild them.found this on Ebay.bit its saying not compatible.
Despite listed for a mk2.not that clued up on drum brakes but I think maybe just saying this as I think maybe more than one diameter.can anyone confirm.but if I was changing the lot would it matter anyway.thanks. Screenshot_20210130-201232_Samsung Internet.jpg

I am having this same issue at the moment. There are two sizes of drum, 180mm and 200mm. I will taking mine off to measure it to be sure, then ordering.

Was wondering if it's even an issue if changing the whole lot from stub axle.
Would it matter anyway.be interested to know the performance of 180 compared to a 200.not that drum brakes are much good anyway.

Just measured mine and the outside diameter where the shoes would grip is just under 190mm so the inside would be 180mm in theory.
Having been looking at availability the 200mm drums are much less common and even a special order part from Heritage. I would stick with 180mm if you already have them. I'm glad I have them.

Not measured yet mine is a 1991 driver.
Dont know when the 200mm drums were put onto mk2,s but I'm thinking with mine being the last of them.its more likely that they are.
Only thing I think could be an issue would be the back plates would be different.

Back plates are definitely different as are the shoes. I have an inkling that 200mm didn't start until 1992.

Yes bought set shoes before for a previous project I recall they were bigger.
Disk conversion would sort this issue lol
But not got the stuff to do it.

So yours are 190mm max measurements out side if so I'll measure mine then I'll know.
    Doubt mine are 200.

Will be 180mm most likely 200 was only for heavy duty, etka says taxi and police and turbo diesel. other issue is if the kit includes cables they changed in 1988, pre-88 are much longer

That's interesting the cables that are on at present only one pulls the shoes onto drum
On one side.now I'm thinking I've got 2 different cables on there from a previous owner.at the handbrake they've added all sorts to try and close the gap of extra cable.
So why the different length handbrake redesign?different route for cable maybe.
I reckon the kit listed poss is right but they saying not based on cable length not drum size as the cables are part of kit.

its down to the handbrake lever, up to 88 it has same handbrake lever as mk1 where the cables attach at the front, post - 88 theres a long bracket poking out the back where the cables go to same as mk3 and mk4. so this is why they're so much shorter after 88

So now I'm guessing I have got 180mm drums but the kit is with longer cables and that's why they saying it not right.

Hi, I need new handbrake cables on my driver
1.8 1991 been looking around I've came across 3 different lengths listed.these sizes are not exact but I've seen around 1530mm
    1630mm 1735mm.
I know upto 88 is different longer I'm told.
I have drums on rear.i take it there is a disk cable length and a drum.and the really long ones are pre 88.
Which is mine for drums thanks.
