Here are a few pics from today, Fitted the front suspension. New top mounts and bearings. New gaz shocks next the bilsteins coming off The gaz kit came they already have the camber adjustment built in. Set to maximum negative camber for now, will see what the end result is when it's4 wheel aligned Happy with the front height and both sides are level, just need a little tweak on the rear
Not much progress over the winter. Only one job remains before its track ready again, 4 wheel alignment. In the meantime I took advantage of the nice sunshine today and removed the bilstein logos and added the gaz. Also fitted my new Volkswagen racing sunstrip. Very happy with the new look. That's all for now, more updates once the alignments done.
Little while since my last update, took the car to brands hatch last week, omg!!! What a difference the new suspension makes. Was a wet day in the morning so turned the shocks to setting 8 in the range of 0 soft and 25 hard. Once the day dried up I turned them to 15 and instantly noticed the difference, really changed the handling as you'd expect! But we'll worth the upgrade. Couple of videos from the day, both running toyo r1r's, didn't want to use the slicks in the fairly damp track lol Morning wet run Afternoon dry run
Nice video but when you exit druids stay in the same gear all the way down to and along cooper straight. Steve
Thanks Steve, Was thinking that myself, short change to 2nd was just giving a boost out of graham hill bend. Did keep in 3rd some of the day. Cheers for the advise
Good to see the suspension having the desired affects. The car look really planted and balanced. What camber and toe settings are you running these days.
I'm going next on 5th June, club msv. Your welcome to pop down. You thinking about booking yours Steve? Hi mike, The camber is set to the maximum on the front shocks, but I haven't changed the rear camber or any toe settings yet. Small tweaks at a time mike lol best to see the changes things have rather than doing it all and not knowing what worked. That's my view anyway!
A video from my day out at brands. Running slicks this time.
Minor Update from today, I fitted a passenger footrest and scuff plate. Also moved the fire extinguisher to a more handy position.
Some of you may have seen the car for sale recently... But after constant thought night and day I just can't bare to sell it. So time for more tinkering and spending moneylol more updates to come soon. But for now are a Few pics from the last outing at bedford. Such a great day and fantastic club gti turn out. Nice to see all the cars you read about so much in the flesh. And a few vids from the day too. Thanks guys, i didn't want to sell but sometimes I struggle to find the time for it and it bugs me that it's just sat there doing nothing but calling me lol but glad I'm keeping it. Just need to make some extra time for it. I was thinking of making it road legal again but it's just too harder drive for normal roads with potholes and also means I can be less limited with mods when not driving on the public highways and worrying about mot's etc. Think I may do the windows next in polycarbonate.
6kg removed from behind dash!!! So today I thought I would tidy a few loose ends in the car. I have removed all the central locking, interior lights and lots of things that I don't need anymore, so a few multiplugs laying around the car not doing anything. so today I thought I would remove all the excess cable and trace it all back to the fusebox and remove it from the source. First up are the front doors, the only electric at the moment is the electric windows, so speaker cable, remote central locking and electric door mirror cables to go. I managed to remove them all from the doors so just the window cables remain, but plans for polycarbonate windows mean these too will soon disappear with a lot of the door metal. following the cable behind the dash, I split the loom to separate the wires I needed and the ones that needed to go. a few less cables rooted behind the dash. I removed all the sound deadening, there was some double layers stuff that was really heavy and covers a lot of the bulkhead this stuff covered all the lower inner dash and under to the tip of the footwells, now removed you can see the bulkhead. I also removed all the sound deadening at the top of the dash, the heated tunnels that supply air to the driver, I haven't used the interior fan at all, so may remove the whole thing, the whole lot filled the footwells! I weighed all the stuff I removed, air vents, sound deadening and wires and it all weighed 6kgs! all behind the dash! next job is to make some panels up to replace the empty holes in the dash. will post some pics over the next few days.
