    As above,

or are they both as good as one another, which can give problems?

I think i am right in saying both can be mapped to have around the same bhp. tho i think the 150 tdi might be a little easyer on the diesel??

Any ideas/help or info be great

    THANKS

150 is a lot peakier and feels quicker imo. I actually found the 150 pretty scary, where as the 140 was a bit flat

    hmmm

I have been reading on the forum here about the 140's and see poeple where saying that some have oil delivery problems and that mapped there are not just going to be the same as the 150.

    thanks for your advise mate.

On the wifes Jetta, the one great thing about it, is the 140 engine. I had a 170GT a while back, and to be honest there was much of a difference.

I believe the 140 is also a 16v diesel, and is much quieter, than my mk4.

mkiv imo , my mate has had both and i felt that the mkiv felt much faster, however the mkv seems to handle better.

Hendy, forgot to add to PM (been a busy night!)

    I have both mk 4 130 & mk 5 140 both GT spec-
yes the 130/150 is a 8V & the mk 5 is a 16V the only noise diffecence is the 16V does have a diffferent cam cover reducing noise & a ballabnce shaft running off the crank

on the road both Mrs & myself find the 8V pulls better upto 3000, partly down to gearing as well
on road std 130 start to loose bit of power 100MPH & above, mk 5 has more torque above 3K making driving 100-120'ish it's sweet spot ;)

nither have been remapped yet, I've been far too busy on other projects!

Looks a hard one to call. tho think i am right in thinkingfor most people the older mk4 150 comes out on top.

Thanks for all your help folks.. and crispy for the pm :)

EDIT: Anyone know of any where i can get a damaged car with a pd150 or engine from?? Phoned Volks a part there, they are looking 1095 for a engine block, 700 for turbo and so on so chatting over 3k nearly by the time i be done. might as well buya full car running with mot and tax for that.

more of an old school fan myself..i wouldnt have a new 16v tdi cos they have a dpf and are also not that economical, however the mk4 build quality is questionable, so neither for me  the best diesels are the old 90bhp e.g ahu type..simple/tuneable and reliable

Driven both and IMO the MKIV wins hands down. My understanding is that re-mapping both models widens the gap even further in the MKIV's favour!

Tuning a isuzu is easy work screw the pump and turbo out full LOL, you'll get a easy 15bhp.. I drive a corsa 15td as a daily this is my 2nd one the first was screwed out that much it was like a bonfire on take off, the 2nd (one i use now) never been touched and its like pulling teeth its that slow.

I had the corsa van (not the combo cube van) with a 1.7 Isuzu engine in and it went pretty well when it was empty!!! reliable is an understatement though. You could service it in about 30 minutes and it did silly mpg. Best van i have had and also the cheapest
