yet again my car has tried to kill me.

on the motorway just around 1am, had just slowed from breaking the speed limit speed, to slightly a less breaking the speed limit speed.

coming up to a 50mph zone i lifted off and slowed to around 65 or so, and i'm in the slow lane. next thing the car pulled sharply to the right, i'm across the middle lane and i'm staring straight at central reservation barrier [><] turned to the left and slammed down on the accelerator and managed to guide car over the lanes back to the hard shoulder without hitting any of the 4 or 5 cars around me.
knew it was the tyre right away and daren't press the brake as much as i wanted to

just moments earlier i had being going <cough> slightly faster, and doubt i'd have hung onto it [:[]

this is what greeted me when i stepped outta the car:

i changed the wheel and my spare underpants, and headed home, still shakin.

this is the tyre. surely this isn't right, it's 2 weeks old and only done around 350 miles [:s]:o[:s]

amazingly, the wheel is completely undamaged, not even a scratch on the rim :o

dunno what would be worse, me being impailed on the central reservation barrier, or my wheel being scratched!

just damn glad i was in the car myself [:|]

Glad to see you're OK but more importantly - what tyres are they? So we can all avoid them....

Sh*t, bad luck. Looking at Darryn's previous car pics, I think those tyres are slightly stretched...? Plus maybe the rim itself could have suddenly become leaky due to insufficient sealant, but doubt that.

195s on 7.5" isnt stretched. Toyo recommend 195 tyres upto 8" wide. Id say it was a faulty tyre and you should play hell and get your next set for free too.

    What brand are they Darryn?

Edit: Just reaslised you have nasty clip on weights Darryn. Give your tyre fitter a big slap, and insist they use the adhesive kind.

Well that's *******s. I had 205's on my Azevs which were 8's, and they had a bit of a stretch on. I nearly had the same incident as Darryn, through this. :)

My mistake its upto 7", but half an inch doesnt create much of a stretch. I had 205s on 9" rims! ;) Stretch tastic.

I think the slightest bit of a stretch simply highlights any areas of weekness with a tyre mould. Im sure that tyre would have failed at some stage regardless of the minimal stretch.

I agree. I wouldn't use stretched or crap tyres anymore after my incident. :)

WHAT!! Surely you must be able to get something from that such as a few set of tyres! From the writing i'd say they Falken's.

Amazed how the rims are fine, did those tyres have some kind of rim protector?

    Bummer.

I'd also get 4-wheel alignment done too. Looks like it was ripped off the rim almost!

seems like it's been ran at low pressure, where the sidewall takes a hell of a lot of flex.

given the mileage you should get a new one for free
