oddly tho, from the rdw website here ( same as the dvla) https://ovi.rdw.nl/Default.aspx , the history shows that the registration was first on the car in holland on 05-02-1999 , and then the date of last transfer of ownership in holland was on 22-05-2009. Begs the question was this a dutch registered lhd mk1 in 1999 , sold to the uk then converted to rhd and had the engine mods, then sold back to holland and again converted back to lhd. As the chassis number would be unchanged the original numberplate would be put back............... under eigenschappen, 1300cc.......270kw 360hp
The system here is quite simple as everything is centralised and computerised. There are no discs in the windows for you insurance, mot e.t.c. All police cars here have a computer system built in linked directly with all other related, your insurance ,tax, mot , drivers licence, last transfer of ownership , e.t.c .To transfer ownership of a car you just need the ownership papers and go to any postoffice with the new owner. It takes all of 1 minute,if the car was taxed and you sell it, you will get the remaining tax back directly to your bank account, the new owner will get a bill in the post within 3 days.Staying off the radar as such is impossible, you sorn the car , sell it , or you will get a bill for tax, insurance, if not insured you get a fine , automatically as soon as it runs out. Not getting caught dose not work. Advoiding registration laws is impossibe here, the computers are never switched off.
I wonder if the Dutch car is a copy. The guy behind the original (he of H.R. Engineering) did say he`d build anyone an identical car for 10k. Having spoke to him at length at E38 a couple of years back, his mainstay was/is Hayabusa-powered Dax Rush`s, and stuff of that ilk. His story went something along the lines of, the Mk1 van was sat in the corner of his yard for years, and he had built an engine for a customer, but the deal fell threw, so he had an engine with no chassis to go in, and he thought `What the hell!` and stuck it in the Mk1.
On closer inspection of the pictures side by side i think you may be right, they are different shades of blue, however one is photographed inside and the other outside and the dutch registered appears to have a really bad panel gap between the door and the front wing above the swage line on the door, could be a poorly fitting carbon door, and the rear wheel arch extensions are fairly wider
