The law (at least it used to be) was that so long as you inform the police first you can tow an abandoned vehicle away for its own `safety`.

You then have to store it for three months, if no one claims the vehicle you can apply for a V5 at which point the vehicle becomes yours.

Not sure if this is still the case though.

    Ooh, whats this checker?

I bought a GTD at auction and until I change the front subframe, MOT it, take it to the Ministry for a Vehicle Id Check and register it in my name I cant get a V5 so I dont know its history.

Speak to the Co-op manager as a courtesy call.

Then contact your local District or Borough Council (or City if relevant). They have a duty over dumped cars and also have a direct route through to the DVLA for registration details (use it for Parking Orders offences etc).

Talk it through with them from the perspective that you can save them time, money and aggro. Worth a shot and all above board.

you're telling me you wouldn't have a black gti 16v with recaro seats for free?! f*ck off rick!

anyhoo, acording to the police, the cars last known owner was from york and the car has no current owner, thus the responsiblilty lies with the co op (they said the council but since its private land and all.. i dont know... im going back in a bit to get a bit more info)

    so im looking at a free car here [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D]

    "To whom it may concern

It is the responsibility of the owner of a private carpark to dispose of abandoned vehicles as they see fit, the bearer of this slip is interested in said vehicle, which has no reported current keeper, Long Eaton police station

    With Compliments, Derbyshire Constabulary"

its all down to the co op manager now [:D] (cant get to see him til my mates feel kind enough to take me there)
