As above, it seems to be steadily coming to a halt, pages & pictures not loading etc.

Before I bail to Firefox, what things should I do?

Download and install the latest version if you've not already....

I would give Google Chrome a try before firefox, it really is super fast!

Could also try resetting IE to original/default settings:

    Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Restore Advanced Settings
    and
    Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Reset

I always prefer sticking with windows/microsoft based scanners/cleaners etc such as this ere. Rather than 3rd party stuff...

Just click 'protection scan', it can take a few hours but i see that as a good thing. I use it every few months, and sometimes it does find and execute the odd thing:thumbup:

May well be some dodgy spyware slowing things down for you.

Use task manager to check the CPU and memory usage first. See if IE is using large amounts of memory/CPU.

When i had XP the new IE ran ever so slow and glitchy so tried Chrome. Seems better on Vista but still using Google Chrome.

    Its a good browser.

Does Active Topics work at all in Google Chrome?

    I can't risk losing that!

ANy add ons like Skype? Missus had the same problem with hers, and it was the Skype add in. You should be able to test this either by starting IE in safe mode, or disabling all add ons. If nothing else works, uninstall Skype, and re-install, but make sure to use the options button on the first screen to uncheck the add in. If you get that far, give me a shout, and I'll check what's needed and not needed.

Don't use cleaners, they only deal with the symptoms, not the cause, and can make a mess of other stuff.
I tried Chrome. It didn't have a home button, and crashed within 30 secs of using it. I then installed the Google toolbar, and it never worked again, so I binned it.

    Jesus, how many? [:s]

    Try this:
    •Go to Start > Run
    •Type iexplore -extoff
    •Press Enter

This will start IE in safe mode. See if that's any better.
You still haven't mentioned the version. Help -> About. 6,7,8 or 8 will be enough.

If none of this works, install FireFox.

It seems to have sped up from the other day, but I'm keen to get it checked over.

    Delete all those add ons?

Pressed F1 and it says 7. I'm on Vista so couldn't find it eariler.

No, don't just delete them, that'll make random things not work.

To get the File menu, just press the alt key, and it will appear (as if by magic;) )

I'd uninstall IE, and then download IE 8. It's much better than 7. Advantage of doing it this way is that it should delete all the unnecessary add-ons as well.
