k, heres the deal, my konis (which are yellow) are damping adjustable which means i can set how hard or soft i want the ride to be, i can adjust this with them fitted on the car, red konis you have to take off the car to do exactly the same,

Coilovers are again damping adjustable (hard or soft) aswell as height adjustable, you should be able to set damping on car, but will have to take each wheel off the set the height!

ok cool, thnx for the info guys [8D]

so if i get konis with adjustable damping, i can have my car lowered, but only when they are first fitted? ie, i can have them fitted with the car lower than standard, but once they're fitted they can't be adjusted height-wise, although the hardness of the ride can? i don't want to go stupidly low or anything, i just want to reduce the gap under the arches, so as long as i can go low enough when i have them fitted then i shouldn't need to get coilovers?

b'locks...go for the koni/eibachs. sounds like your cup of tea to me! (i've been in oakgreen88's and they're spot on for handling/ride)

you should try fitting them yourself really (get a haynes manual...it's easy...you'll have to buy a couple of extra tools...and you'll have to pay to get the camber re-set after, usually about 50, but not many places do it).

    alternitavely..where are you based?

will (oakgreen88)...i'd say your car looks like its about 40mm down, not 25mm. but don't you have lowering caps as well?

Yes and no. You cant choose your own height, as the springs are what controls the ride height. Eibachs are known for giving a drop of 30-40mm. You can not go lower with this kit.
I had them on my VR before coilovers and they (handling wise) were spot on. Not low enough for me though. :)

well, me and oakgreen88 live in berks off J8/9 of the M4...we may be able to do you a favour!!

is always a good idea (or at least i think so) to buy new bolts for everything...as the old ones are probably rusted to death and may break when removing.

anyway, pm me or oakgreen88 if you're interested.

Currently have eibach springs (-35mm) and F/R eibach ARB's and it makes a huge difference - noticably lower as well but staying subtle - you should be OK with 17" alloys as well. Have bought koni yellows and powerflex rear axle mounts which are also suposed to make a big difference on the mk3 as the standard ones move the rear wheels forward / back and from side to side. My local vw specialist will charge 104 squid to fit the koni's. From standard the difference is huge and will start to worry the gti boys! [:^:]

Hey Oak, what Eibach springs are you using, I was gonna go for the Pro kit?
Also where's the cheapest place to buy, with Koni Top Adj & Eibach springs it's coming in around 500 [:s]

i think he is running the pro kit.

apparantly venom is the cheapest. think you should be able to get it down to just over 400. you may wanna check that the rears are adjustable cause i think the golf ones aren't, but they usually supply corrado rears, which are (can someone confirm this?).

dunno which mine are not sure if they're pro kit or what, got them about 1&1/2yrs ago, when i got them there was only 1 type available, got the dampers from awesome-gti and springs from somewhere else cant remember, im not sure wot ur saying about the rears, acf8181, is true or not, personally i wouldnt have thought so.

im also pretty sure they dont make the rear koni's top adjustable any more(for mk2 that is), think the adjustment is at the bottom by the bolt onto the rear axle, but not 100%

by the time i bought dampers, springs, new top mounts and bump stops etc etc, think it was probably near 500 quid,
