I suppose, its just wishful thinking on my part. But VAGs new strategy even stops SEAT and Skoda having their powerful petrol models for their cars. Bernd has a plan and its to get the interest back into VW. According to him, they want to retain the GTI as one model only. However, the lightweight version would be a "model in its own right, not a trim level".
It'll be more expensive anyway I'd have thought. It'll cost them more to make a smaller number of the "stripped out" Golfs than it does to make millions of Golf GTIs on the production line. Plus the lightweight body panels & engine tuning will give them a good excuse for a higher price. Still, like Drew says. It'll make an interesting buy 2nd hand in a few years.
