Having read this other thread, I don't fancy one of the aluminium ones

    http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=147733&highlight=trolley+jack

Has anyone used other types, and how did they get on. As both dubs are lowered, I need one that goes down to 130mm or below, and ideally goes up about 400mm or thereabouts.

I guess I could always drive the car onto a plank to lift it up a little bit...

Here are some I'm looking at...

    http://www.justoffbase.co.uk/Trolley-Jack-Premier-2ton-Low-Entry-Super-Rocket-Lift-Sealey-2000LEQ

    http://www.justoffbase.co.uk/Trolley-Jack-Yankee-3ton-Low-Entry-Sealey-3001LE

Or a taller one, that has a nice rubber saddle, to minimise damage to the old bangers. I've used one of these and was well impressed, but it needs the plank of wood trick.

So who's got experience of any of these... how have they stood up to years of use?

Interesting, but not enough info... maybe the wrong end of the market too. I do a lot of work on my cars, so I'm prepared to spend a bit more for something that lifts higher/faster and has a wider base (more stable). I'd also like it to last a good few years... cheapo ones tend to last 2 years then start losing fluid / not lowering properly.

The JCB one looks interesting, but not low enough.

yeah have a look on machine mart, they have quite a bit of choice, and it shows your minimum and maximum lifts plus other spec

a mate of mine has a snap-on one. think it cost about 160 but goes really low and quite high, feels well build and stable even when at its full height

How long have you had it? Still working OK? I tend to avoid Clarke stuff.

I have two Arcan steel jacks rated to three tons, very heavy heavy jacks about 50KGS but more than up to the job. Made in China as is everything else

VERY happy with it,sim9 has used 1 for over a year with no problems too :)
Cheaper & better than the machine mart version.

I got a blue point one, can gett to the subframe on a low mk2 nice and easy, its nylon type wheels to a bit quieter on the concrete lifts nice and high and had a damn long lever for ease of lifting.

3 years old and never missed a beat although it heavy but not the heaviest either

How much was it? I can't see them for sale on the Snap-On site. I don't know if this is because the website is out of date, or because they've stopped doing them.

I got one of the Weber long reach low entry ones

it is heavy but it lifts quite a height and entry is really low too

wheels are steerable castors on the back and fixed o-ring cushioned ones up front

it has saved me a lot of hassle during the build and well it has been worth the money...

    not cheap but brilliant jack...
