Does anyone use mechanics gloves? Working on the car outside at this time of the year isn't the most enjoyable thing, and not being able to feel my fingers after 20mins isn't nice either. So I've been thinking of getting some mechanics gloves similar to these:- They should hopefully save my knuckles too. I want to know how they are to work with and if they allow enough feeling for small jobs? Cheers, Sean
tell me about it ive been scrapping soundproofing out in this cold! cant be more than a few degrees inside the car! had a blowtorch to kepp me warm! and thermals... back on topic.. i use these gloves, work gave them to me. think theyre about 15-20 there are three types two with velco wrist straps and one without. ive worn the several of the fingers through on the pair shown but thats after a fair bit of work. yes thay allow lots of feel. the type above this has leather reinforced fingers and are yellow...well my mates pair is... but are 25-30
I've just got a couple of pairs of the original type above, seem to be a very good product. 10 off eBay - search 'mechanix'
Well worth getting a pair. I wear them at work at this time of year. I put a pair of latex gloves on first then those and your hands are realy warm. Need to get a smaller pair though coz ive only got small hands and my fingers dont go to the end
I've got couple pairs just for the clean jobs, most of time just put 2 sets of latex on I use 1 pair as driving gloves, nice and grippy
ive been doing a lot of work in the garage lately, latex ones have kept the frost bite away, but they split when you get something wrong. i might ask for a set of gloves for xmas. how hard wearing are they?
I've got a few pairs....well worthwhile. You have to remove them for very very fiddly bits, hence why i prefer the slip on ones.
I'd say you still end up removing the gloves for the smallest of jobs, so latex gloves are ideal. Then use both if trying to keep a bit warm, but there's not whole a lot of warmth in them tbh. Welding gloves are better for non-dexterity jobs, and 1/4 of the price.
I use latex gloves as well but wanted a bit more warmth and protection from constant nicks and grazed knuckles! I work in a cocktail bar during the weekends, so getting lemon and lime juice in cuts is not the most pleasant of experiences! Thanx for the advice guys, think I'll pick some up at the Auto Sport show. Chris- Did you get my PM? Sean
jeeez ladies!!!... just use the blue synthetic rubber gloves. they do the job. when your working hard outside your hands will warm up naturally
I've used them in the past, well worth it when working under the car and you're constantly hitting your hands on the floor or need to put some serious welly on a stiff bolt! I don't have any of my own so I do without and I'm too tight & northern to buy some though Latex gloves get on my tits, they constantly get caught in stuff! Last time I put a set on they lasted all of an hour before they were hanging in shreds off my hands
lasted an hour? i put some on once, put my hand infront of my mouth when i coughed and they flew into pieces! my brother has some and wore them when working on the mk2 lastnight, they really seem to rock. hes had them years and they have lasted really well. they dont split like my latex ones did so when we got home my hands were filthy and his were not im getting some soon.
