    Just wondering what a 200bhp mk1 20vt 0-60 time would be? he's running an 020 16v box

    Cheers guys

thought it would be quicker? traction the problem I guess?

You can't get the power down in first or second, forgetting about the strength of the box for a minute.

I run a Racelogic box for track days (it's GPS based) which has a 0-60, 0-100 and 0-100-0 option on it and a friend asked me to test the car. It did a 5.8 to 60, but was scrabbling for grip all the way through to third, even in the dry.

In reality, 0-60 is a headline figure - it's how it accelerates from 30-100 that counts if you want to have a dick measuring competition with someone.

^^ yep, esp on track days 0-60 is irrelivant.

    What does it do 30-100?

bobby has a mk1 20vt. it has no idea what to do with the bhp. 2nd can light up the tyres with just a flex of your toe. 3rd seemed a bit better, but even at 70 in 4th it would still get swirly.

thats on an o2a though. the previous owner did 13.1 at santa pod apparently

so why do it? seems like overkill to me. Is it due to the torque? ie is a 200bhp valver any better?

    can of worms...

a lot of it is due to the gay power delivery on a 20vt. the massive spike of torque breaks traction for fun. of the lights (in germany, on an autobahn etc) it actually got left by an escort RS turbo, only to then decimate it once it got traction. one time there was a tweaked looking/sounding evo 8 that was hooning from some traffic lights. the mk1 caught it and then when it got side by side after a bend, the evo shoots off and the mk1 wiggles past it.

No idea and I don't really care, tbh. Like I said, a friend asked me to time the 0-60. I'm only really interested in acceleration and top end on the track. I'm sure it would do 200mph in a straight line if I ****ed enough money away on it, but that's not my thing.

It was quicker than two Mitsubishi Evo VIII FQ300s and two E46 M3s round Spa Francorchamps on Monday, if that gives you an idea, but coming out of La Source (a 2nd gear corner) was very frustrating, having to wait to get on the power.

It all depends how the power and torque are delivered. I've purposely mapped mine so full boost doesn't kick in until 4K, because it spend most of its time on track between 4K and 6.5K, and it's completely driveable on the road as long as you don't boot it.

My R32 and S4 (both naturally aspirated) were much smoother, because the torque curve was fairly flat and constant on both of them, but, even though they were both NA, the pwoer delivery was very different between the 3.2 V6 and 4.2 V8.

    Each to their own.

do you have a LSD? would it make that much difference? can imagine how quick they could be, just sounds a bit frustrating as a road car from what people are describing.

If you map it to deliver at the top end does that work better? as near on maximum torque at low revs must give it grip issues?

I can see how it can be frustrating on track where you need full acceleration out of tight corners, but on the road I don`t think it`s such an issue.

How often would you have the pedal to the floor coming out of a corner in the real world? Not often enough for it to be an issue IMO.

And when it comes to the TLGP? Well I think it`s better to let the other guy think he`s got the jump, before blowing his doors off...;)

I guess around 400bhp through a mk1 is stupid then as that is what I am currently building!? lol There must be some reasoning to putting 200bhp+ in a mk1 if the likes of Reeves does it and from what I have read his mk1 delivers it really smoothly? Or is it just down to him being a top driver?

No LSD at the minute (didn't have time to get it finished for this trip) and yes, it would make a difference to how it would pull out of a corner, as well as through, because you can start to apply the power much sooner into the corner.

My car is purposely mapped for the track and I've set it up how I like it - everyone likes power delivered in different ways. I swapped with a mate in an Evo VIII MR 370 for an hour or so. It was understandably much quicker, but the comment he made was that the torque delivery took him a couple of laps to get used to, keeping the revs up as well as the sudden smack of torque at 4K.

Whether an engine is mapped for big torque low down or further up the rev range is irrelevant in 1st and 2nd gear, because you get through them so quickly if you're going from a standing start.

If you're setting up a car for road only use, I would go for a smoother torque curve right through the rev range.

You're kind of limited on the range though with a K03 or K03s turbo with stock injectors, because the torque and power curves will start to drop off around 5,500 rpm, partly because the K03 can't chuck enough air through, but also because the injectors max out.

Nay, sir! The winner is the one who gets to the next lights first...or has the balls to go flat out...;)

like the guy with the 400+bhp vr6T mk3 the other week who eventually came past, part throttle wheelspinning like mad in 3rd, only to then go full throttle and the boost go stratospheric

    that was cool

my cabby at the pod will do 0 to 60 in 5.9 with slicks

on the road the acceleration between 30 to 100 is funny quick
thats on a 020 box which is now dead lol
