    i have a mk1 [:D]

but to many it doesnt count as its a 91 GTi cabrio..

    with a clipper kit

personally i think they're the best looking of the lot (metallic blue)
but i expect to get slaughtered for liking the clipper kit - even though it looked the nuts colour coded in - i hate cheap black plastic bits more..

    Mk2 rocco.
    Cheaper than the equivelant golf.
Same chassis as mk1 golf but designed to be aerodynamic compared to say, a small run around that's been made a bit sporty.[zips flame suit up]

    Still got my one [:D]

And I still see more out and about on the roads than I do many other cars from that era :)

    @ Mothy - yer lucky so-an-so!

Mk1s may be fewer, but there are plenty left. I have three.

The Mk1 Golf Owners Club website & forum on is busy enough.

Also, they're in theory more hassle & expense than a Mk2 Golf to keep running, especially as daily drivers (none of mine are) - rust, age, mileage. Mk2s are a way cheaper option for this.

yep as daily driver mk1's are rare, more weeked cars these days and for summer use only. most vw enthusiasts have one or 2 tucked up in a garage or 3 if your mr eyre, ive only seen 2 mk1's on the road in the last 5 weeks and 1 was a 1.3 driver, both in red!!!

Mine's safely tucked up in the garage, comes out for a slow, noisy, uncomfortable Sunday drive every few weeks if it's dry. Still not been able to get to restoring it much but it's coming to no harm for now :)

I did have to get it out the other week for an emergency trip to GSF for parts 'cos my g/f's Lupo was broken and she took my usual daily Mk2 to work. No problems at all, 3-speed auto power! :p

Hardly surprising that they are slowly disappearing. The newest Mk1 Golf is over 20 years old now. When was the last time you went to someones house and watched a 20 year old TV ?
