Or my parents house, they love old stuff (probably all 'rare' retro ebay stuff now) and very little is less than 20 years old!
Mine doesn't need all the unnecessary weight and added complexity, the steering is perfectly light enough for me in stock form
I was made to sell mine for a bigger car [:^(] when I had a child, I resented her so much for that I left her.
They're getting rare, but not dying out and I don't think they ever will - there is such a following/cult status with them, that there will always be people who keep them running.
saying i havent seen one in a while i spotted a blue a reg mk1 driver with a nice bird driving it. it was slamed on 13" ats classics made my day. not sure if it was your old motor keerly
iv'e got a 5 door 1.5 diesel (mars red) she not been touched in 5 or so years. she was quich for a diesel too.
Had a Mk1 now for six years, has grown from a standard 1.6 GTI to a 1.8 GTI to a 2.0 9A. Sees little road use these days as built for hills / sprints BUT whenever it does get out it is always a joy ........ standard steering is perfect.
