    yeah derr, that's why i'm I V - mk1 16v. :p

but we are talking about the same 8v fuse box and relays that were in the mk1 originally and why it won't let it rev, so you're still right. ;)

Fuel pump relay will require some input from coil/dizzy/sparks wiring to energise it, one thing you'll notice if your distributor packs in will be no fuel pump on cranking. Usually a signal from the ignition will be used to ground/earth the relay. :)

Ian, just out of interest - is yours still the original fusebox and if so, what date was you car first registered? The reason I ask is that I've just got a late 83 Scirocco GTI which has an odd fusebox - neither mk1 or mk2 style [:s]

I'm going to experiment with this on Saturday :)

My car was originally registered in germany according to the log book, ex squadies car maybe??? X-reg so 80-81?

i'm going to try the right relay from the mk2 16v fusebox over the weekend.

So can someone pls talk me through exactly what i need to do to bridge the relay to bypass the revlimiting bit.
    cheers
    Ian.

WHen you remove the fuel pump relay you will see the socket on the fusebox has numbers for each of the terminals - you need to bridge 13 and 14.

I'd recommend that you stick a fuse in-line otherwise there is no protection for the pump.

The relay looks exactly the same as yours mike, except it's a siemens one. It has the same albeit more faded wiring diagram on the side.

So i want to bypass the rev limiting function but i don't want the fuel pump to run all the time?

Mr Brown the section of the fusebox the relay cam from on mine, is only numbered upto 9. no 14 or 15? [:s]

Don't think you'll be able to bypass the rev limiting bit on it's own Ian, well not easily anyway [:s]

I would just link a wire in there as a temporary measure (make pump run constantly) to test it to see if the relay does affect the limiter, if it does then it's time for the thinking cap.

That pic was worth it after all then .

Yep do what Gary Say's then at least you either know it IS or ISN'T the relay doing it.

Ian, back to this pic of the fusebox from page1 - is it the same as yours?

You can just make out the pin numbers where the (missing) fuel pump relay is - the top and bottom pins I think.

That's the standard mk1 relay but your fusebox has been butchered - presumably due to some damage within?

Not sure really? It's always been a bit dodgy but worked okay not butchered by me.

Whats the concenus then, can the revlimiting bit of the relay be bypassed without the pump being constant

I'd do this 1st to see if you still have the problem thus maybe eliminating the relay & looking elsewhere.
