Here is the link ( copy & paste ) to the work I have done with help from friends, thought some of you guys may like to see???

    http://www.vwcaddy.com/forumdisplay.php?f=27

The link is to the forum section and from this look for the power steering posts, Part 1 and Part 2.

I only did it to prove that it could be done easily and it was fun but there are many ways to do it.

    Be lucky.

cool, well done. some people pay a grand for a set up like that, if it works well you should make a few kits.

you could vary the size of the pulley to vary the pump pressure I guess... (?)

The pump and pully's and pipes will be VAG from a Golf/Jetta as they screw into the rack and make things easy to deal with on that side of things, bolt on.

    Good work.

A few questions if I may....

Do I see you have some sort of adaptor brackets on the bulkhead to take the rack mounts? Have you had to create dummy studs in effect or are you using the original VW bulkhead studs to actually mount the rack with.

Does the rack sit centrally to give equal lock either side?

What track rod ends did you use?

Finally, how many turns lock to lock?

Edit - what was the reason for chopping metal of the seam? UJ to close?

    Cheers

To mount the rack I have got custom mounts made from billet that bolt onto the original MK1 studs then you bolt the rack to these using the Clio brackets. Because this was my first crack at the conversion I've had custom mounts made but if I was to have another go I would cut the MK1 one's off and redrill the bulkhead to take the Clio mounts.

Yes the rack sit centrally and I kept the original clio track rod ends as there was more that enough thread in them.

Lock to lock.... I'll have to get back to you as the motor is 120 miles away

The seam on the bulk head was cut as the bolt holding the UJ on the Clio was hitting and I wanted to keep this angle that I mounted it on so cut and welded the seam.

Another thing with this conversion is that the motor will be using a cable change gearbox.

    Very useful - thanks.

So di you just tap threads in the billet to take the Clio rack mounts or are there studs poking out of it that I can't see? (doing my best to look at the pics but just can't quite see).

So the standard VW steering track rod ends (that fit into the hub) have the same thread as the steering arms for the Clio rack?

And of course the cable change box negates the need to reposition the old rod change linkage bracket on the rack....
