I got a quote for the door bars and dash bar.... 320 + VAT. Which is a bit more than expected.
I will just be getting the dash bar made for now...

I put this together yesterday. It was nice to use my TIG for something of my own! I will paint it before final fitting. Although it would be great to make a mould and do a batch in carbon. A bit pointless maybe, but it would look good.
The idea is to get things in postition ready for a weekend of hardcore wiring on the 7th/8th
It is really nice to have everything comfortably in reach. The JMR linkage has a very short throw, so knuckle clearance is not an issue.

    A small update.
Spent most of the weekend wiring... well, cutting wires.

    Some switches.

A bit of rust to repair. Nothing major.

And my new heater matrix and fan unit. 2.2Kw output apparently.

Liking the look of that heater matrix and fan Sam  I bet that's a real weight saving, where di you get it if you don't mind me asking?

    Thanks.
    It's great isn't it!
    I got it from here:
    http://www.t7design.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=189

It will save a bit of weight, although only a couple of Kg's to be honest. It should be pretty straight forward to sort out and get working. I am keeping the dash, so I just need to duct it straight in.

I was planning to keep the original instrument cluster, but none of it was really working - Only the warning lights and the semi-functioning fuel gauge.
So It was easier to bin the lot and fit a new gauge and my own warning lights. We'll see...!

Made an aluminium subframe that bolts to the steel dash supports - this will support all the gauges better than the old cardboard.
Wiring mostly done. Just need tidying and arranging!

Thanks! I just want to give it a good thrashing now.
There is a fair bit to do in the next 7 days, along with work and earning some money.
    Tidy and package all wiring.
    Fit up dash
Fit heater matrix and plumb into dash (this may have to wait)
    Fit plastic rear windows
    Stickers
Refit front cage and sleeve joints where it was cut
    Fit dash bar
    Fit seats/belts
Spray bonnet LORCH 'orange' - prep done.

RACE CHECK before it hits the track again.... Maybe fit some fresher tyres....

Priorities may be wrong in some instances, but we'll see.

Thanks. Yeah, see you there Gurds, I cannot wait.
I'll be out in both 'Race' sessions. I think the BTCC golf will be going round at the same time, maybe? And Reeves Mk1, another slick-50 Mk1, The Nothelle mk1, Mike's Kamei mk1, a Race 356 and some beetle challenge cars.... They are the ones VW Heritage knows about so far, but there will be more booked that are unknown until the day

I reckon about 4 days work. Luckily I have Sat/Sun/Mon/Tues, but I have to squeeze in a couple of jobs in to pay for it all, so some late nights to come....

Oh, and I need to sort a fuel gauge... and fit it.
    Going for this one:

    Yeah, see you there.

Would be good to put a face to the names James.
No, I ran out of time for a full piantjob, and we are refitting the booth anytime now - just enough time to do the bonnet and get some stickers on hopefully. A bit of a shame, but there is always the winter if work goes quiet. Hope you can make it.

    Just got time to share:

Dash bar. Profiled and bent by Fabricage (cambridge). Peter is a great chap there. If I get a side impact, it should bend away from the driver.

Dash mostly finished. Lots will have to wait (shift lights and wiring fuel gauge etc etc):

    Fresh bonnet paint:

I need a new grill, but I really don't fancy trimming all the plastic between the grills!

    See you at Brands tomorrow.
I still have a load to do!

Will be at Brands tomorrow- not in golf - white ex- slick 50 (engine rebuild!) but in T25 camper instead. Will look out for you there. Cheers Rob

I had so much fun yesterday. It was really nice to be on track without the pressure of a test/race day, and to just have fun. I need to do it more. And I love taking passengers out.

Really good to meet a few people from the forum and have a peek around the cars.
I have a couple of good videos I'll upload later.

A picture from the late night before:

And finally being enjoyed after lots of effort:

I did't get a chance to go into the lower paddock and have a look around, but I hear it was good down there.
Thanks to VW Heritage for putting the event on.

Thanks gurds. You too. I had great fun.
Really impressed with your car and driving. pulled away with ease. Was it locking a rear slightly though?
