Back home doing the nice bits! I had a week off work so got cracking! [/IMG] Forgot about this, not new again, removed from Jon Saxon's (ex EVO mag) project MK1. It was funny that the build of Jon's car was one of the insperations behind my build. I was ordered to remove it from the coffee table after a week! I do like it though! [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] P4P windows fitted along with repaired filler neck and fuel cap. [/IMG] [/IMG] Ronel Turbos (had these for years! not very light but i do like em!) [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG]
poundland paint is ace! nice build thread, where have you got the grommets from for the bulkhead when running the brake servo lines through?
[/IMG] [/IMG] One piece door windows fitted, Mini type rear window seals used, look better than most i have seen if i do say so myself! [/IMG] Looks like a car almost! [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] Scary engine fitting! Big thanks to my little brother for the extra pair of hands! Im better working alone!! my stress levels during this time were high! (Read: much shouting and swearing!) [/IMG] [/IMG] Its in, 7 days after leaving the body shop. [/IMG] Back on its wheels. Stress levels now much lower! [/IMG] Im now upto date! Just got to find some time around work! Thanks for looking
Thanks Jon, The brake lines are run through the chassis legs, i covered them in Military grade washer tube to protect them. Some of the grommets are from other VW's most have been collected on my travels.
I know how long it takes. I have not had a chance to get near my red mk1 that is currently under a foot of snow in the garden. [:^(] Engine bay work is done and it is halfway through getting cage fitted and sound proofing removed. It is inspirational to see other folks projects come together, as it gives a bit of motivation to get on with mine.
Only reason i did this thread is because its the threads on this forum that made me keep going down the garage scraping tar and underseal. Somtimes when you stare at a bare shell its hard to see the end! Its funny that once its back from paint every man and his dog come round the garage to have a look, nobody comes round when all the hard work is being done. Hopfully this may make one person go down the garage.
Great build mate, really nicely done, will be a wikid track toy! I couldnt help but notice your cambelt tensioner is round the wrong way though! (needs to be turned clockwise to tension, not anti clockwise).
It has been off and on again since the photos above, does it look right now? I went to the garage this morning to check it out, could not find the tool to back it off and check it though. Thanks for the heads up [/IMG]
Had an issue with the lower strut brace being very close to the gear box, so i sketched one up and my mate Jim with some top Tig skills made this up, he even blasted it and powder coated it. Top bloke. [/IMG] Ends of the tube capped off. [/IMG] Fitted, will also make a good jacking point. [/IMG]
Other bits that have now been fitted. Header tank from a late Polo using OE bracket (spot weld drill has paid for its self 10 times over!) Strut brace also fitted. [/IMG] Fire and Electrical pull cables fitted. [/IMG] Exhaust manifold and HT leads - Clips and cable ties to keep tidy. [/IMG] Mate Jim made this catch tank, its a bit small at 1L but will do until we find some larger diameter stainless tube. [/IMG]
Alternator lowered to clear the carbs using home made adjustable rod, left and right hand thread so can be adjusted easily. Belt sourced from local motor factors. [/IMG] Brake light switch added as all my mechanical switch ideas looked pony. Positive bulkhead also fitted. [/IMG] Rod to cable adaptor fitted and set up, had to make a custom cable to get the feel of the shift better. Hindle controls are the OE supplier for these cables based in the UK less than half the price from CAE. [/IMG] OE heater also back in. [/IMG] Driver seat and 6 point 3" Sabelt harness offered up. Both seat belts i got new but out of date. Passenger side is matching but only 3 point still 3" straps though. [/IMG] Sorry the pic quality is always poor! Taken with my phone in a single garage is less than ideal!
Battery installed, will have to come back out as Santa is bringing me some performance trim door cards [/IMG] Made up a bracket this morning to hold the Filter king regulator, managed to set fire to my trousers! It was the warmest i had been all morning! Quick lick of enamel and baked with a fan heater. [/IMG] How the bay is looking now. Function is the most important but i still want to try and keep it neat [/IMG] Thanks for the comments.
the whole thing looks very neat indeed, you're going to have buckets of fun with this once it's ready for track
