    car looks very tidy indeed

mind you i'd be surprised to see a 1.8 16v on 40s making that sort of power

but i think 170 is defo attainable

Theres so much more room for filters on a mk2 on carbs than there is on a mk1 [:^(] Sweet looking mk 2 m8. Any idea what jets and emulsion tubes your running?

HI JUST SOLD THE CAMS AND CARBS AS THE ENGINE WENT POP, GOING BACK TO
INJECTION NOW AS CARS TO THIRSTY AND NOISY FOR DAILY USE, WOULDNT
ADVISE A CARB SWAP TO ANY ONE IN THE FUTURE AS ITS VERY ON OFF,
    THROTTLE ON THESE ENGINES

Hmmm. Absolute bullsh[/i]it unless it's not tuned properly, which might
also explain your poor fuel economy. What went wrong with the engine?

well ive got 2 engineering qualifications and it was tuned twice by d an b
carburettors of nottingham, who funnily enough specialize in these.

OK, point taken that came across as a bit rude and I apologise. It's hard
see light-hearted banter on the internet.

I'll try and explain my point. You say that the throttle's an on/off switch
with these engines, which I know isn't true because I have them on my
2.0 16v. You didn't specifically mention the cams, which will obviously
affect the peakiness of the power curve (which isn't quite the same as an
on/off effect to the throttle pedal), but with this kind of setup it's 90% in
the jetting of the carbs and you can get around the problem by setting
the engine up for a road spec. If the carbs were set up to chase the peak
power figure (like a race-spec setup) then the driveability will suffer as a
result but there's no reason it shouldn't be possible to find a nice
compromise between peak power, good torque spread and nice
driveability for a road car. There are some weaknesses to carbs on these
16v engines but it should be quite possible to tune them to give more low
down torque and a wider spread of power than on an equivalent K-Jet
    setup.

This is my dyno plot (standard 9A with just KR cams and Dellorto 40s):

    <a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v521/gs3333/rr.jpg" target="_blank">Link
    </a>

The short inlet manifold shouldn't necessarily be a problem. You can fit a
longer one or longer trumpets if you move the radiator a bit.

Now can we be friends?

ok mate may have gone bit off the handle. to be honest i got fed up of
the damn thing as well ive had carbs before and they worked well on
that, as for this, maybe it was a tuning issue, maybe not, but the
hassle involved in them outweighs the positive in my view.

    cheers for apology

i never had one problem with the mk1 valver on 45's [:D]

it always sat ticking over bang on 1k and it was only set up the once,i think most problems will come from old carbs being a bit tired and worn on the spindles etc?
