Dedication dear boy, dedication! Hey, personally, i don't give a f**k! The VR6 Highline is no GTI, like the R32 is no GTI, why compare? I bought my VR6 coz i liked it. I sold the Corrado VR6 to free up some money, and couldn't afford an R32, so the next best sound was a MK3 VR6. It ain't standard, so it sort of handles (although it needs to be a damn site harder) and it ain't as quick as some cars on the road, but hey, i like it! If i'd have wanted a 16V, i'd have bought one....................... ................but i wanted a decent car! (waits patiently for a flaming!! ) In all seriousness though, perhaps a 16V is potentially as fast or more nimble than a VR, but each to there own! A Fiesta RS Turbo is pretty quick, but they blow up. Even if they didn't, i still wouldn't have one!
i like marmite, but you might not The only way i'd buy a VR was if the local petrol station attendant was a hotty Edited by: GolfMk3
National circuit Jay, I've timed a well driven* Focus RS around there at RSOC national day that was doing 1:30s.. *-By well driven I mean he was using all the track and hitting all his apexes that I could see
thats a good time, my best was 1:19's i think on the bike let me know if you do another trackday at donington, i'd love to come along and watch, the mk3 is in not fit state to take on a track!
We're going to be there at the end of February I think it's Sunday the 27th. I still need to sort out my itchy foot down Craners and keep turning in too early for Redgate and the left hander down Craners 1:19 is a midfield time in the Seat Cupra championship cars I believe. Great circuit Donington, love it (Sorry for the thread hijack back to the b1tching about those mk3s.. ) Edited by: G_V_K
i can't believe that a 16v will have that much better weight distribution than a vr6. the engines still quite far forward.
Front engine, FWD cars, obviously have most of the weight over the front, the 16v just means its a bit lighter at the front than the VR6, therfore distribution would be slightly better Edited by: GolfMk3
I noticed that too. Lots of room for a turbo in the VR then! My old 1.4 used to lean forward, but there was so much space you could almost stand in the engine bay.
Damn straight. I really did have problems with hills when I drove it down to Cornwall. Burning the clutch just to go forward!
I prefer the 16V to the VR6 AS STANDARD but a mildly sorted VR6 is a different thing altogether. Two things missed - The 16V came with fatter rubber (205s as opposed to 195s)) when new and has firmer suspension which says a lot about VWs iea of what each was for. Another thing missed is that the VR6 has lot more torque so doesn't need mercilessly thrashing like the 16V. A VR6 is faster in a straight line and sounds better but loses out on twisties from it's over heavy nose and softer set up. Also costs a shed load more to run. If you want a standard VR6 get a Corrado! As for the R32 mentioned AGAIN - It's handling is a World apart from any mk3 (or 2) but it just weighs too damn much. Needs to lose about 200kg then it really would FLY.
I could get my VR6 to tilt backwards if i crashed it hard enough. It'd handle like a bag of poo then though! IMO, as controversial as it may be, the Corrado VR6 ain't all that either! My MK3's faster!
