MK3 Golf 1.9 D - alternator help pls

    oh and 1Z are TDI right? if so the ecu gets the rev counter signal from the alt, then ecu sends a rev counter signal it to the dash :)

    1Z? Errmmm, sorry for being dumb but mine's a 1Y guys... or have i got the wrong end of the proverbial?! [:s]

    1Z are indeed TDI engines, unlike our client's 1Y IDI engine. :thumbup:

    The TDI engines do have a crank trigger wheel on the crank and and sensor on the block, I wondered if that was used instead of the alternator for the tach trigger. Modern electronic stuff that I have no intrest in. :lol:

    yes sorry that was aimed at danster, as he asked earlier in the thread where the TDI got its signal from. sorry about that should have said

    hey that's cool dude. no probs.

    right, got some news... e-mail arrived and she says the one that is fitted is a 70amp... code on it states the following - Bosch... 028 903 025 G... made a few more enquiries through friends of a friend type thing and now they have info from the dealer (typically eh!).

    they are saying what i SHOULD have fitted is...

    Bosch... 028 903 025 P 90 amp.

    sound about right guys???

    generally aye diesel has a 90amp as std, butthe 70a was fitted to some as per the part number list i wrote out, all of those were listed for the 1y

    hmmm. quandry then... or is it? spoken to another mate of a mate yadda yadda this evening and he used to work for Blackshaws, Vauxhall dealership and he said in his opinion, a higher amp is better for a diesel so... well, what would you advise now folks? i don't want to just jump in cus this isn't a cheap item after all... well, unless i can get a decent one second hand obvs! lol

    if it was me id try to get a 90, but if 70 is all you can find then its better than having a broken car!
