What get rid completely. Not sure about that. Like them the way they come out the factory. Would prefer to get it right in stead of bypassing it.

sorry yes my signature, the link below my posts! there is no adjustment required for timing but you must set it up exactly to TDC otherwise the ecu will flag cam sensor codes and go into limp. if you have VAG-COM its dead easy to check and adjust

Will this also cause a Camshaft Position (Hall) Sensor (G40)
16-00 - Signal Outside Specifications error on vag com
    if not done correctly

Brilliant, I have Vag.com so will do this. It's running great now. Only issue now is slight hesitation at higher revs and starting the car in the morning takes 2 attempts to get is going then fine. Any ideas??

ecu temp sensor would be on my list, my mk2 did the same in the morning with a dodgy one. can check it with vag-com using the measuring blocks

after reading this thread i cleaned my maf as mine has been running rough for months
[2l 8v} this seems to be the last piece to the puzzle and it runs great now .
the other problems were dizzy 1 tooth out and leaks at crank breather , under breather valve , rocker gasket and exhaust manifold oh and previous owner had replaced air flow meter but not matched it to ecu

When you say one tooth out, I was told that it only takes that but how do you check as I'm clueless on timing. ?

yeah id be replacing cap, arm, leads and plugs plus look at the coil and tci unit. make sure you buy proper bosch/beru:
    http://www.vwspares.co.uk

have a damn good look around the bay for any plugs that looks dodgy, unplug them and check for dirty or bent pins

Thank you John, problem is I have replaced the cap, leads, sparks, lambda, breather pipes, vacume hoses and second hand coil. Had it checked on a diagnostics and it said hall sender, I haven't fitted that yet but I have it. What do you think??

that could well cause dody running yeah, so if its flagged then first check wiring to it is ok look at the pins to ensure fully in plug and not bent then look at wires inside boot and as far to ecu as you can
