yes rly, how much of a resemblance did that engine have with a mk4 golf engine? almost any engine can be made to be "gti" but a 1.8t fresh from a mk4 is not gti material

Well I did used to watch TV back in the day when Twin Peaks and the X files were on. In fact it was the days before the mk4 came out.

Now Richard, that is not Jambo, that is a pic of Bertie Basset. It takes Allsorts I suppose.

We will just have to see what happens.....

The good news is that every mk4 comes with a Donor Card, so the odd decent part found on them can be used for transplant.

Y reg whatever that is. I stopped bothering with the age when they started fitting CATs. Anything after 92 is only ever considered as an organ donor!

Hmm, well that is annoying. For a 2001 vehicle that looked like it had no rust on it..........I am disappointed to find that after spending an hour on the end of a grinder carefully removing the outer sill, the inside of the sill is as rusty as fook. [:x]

So the one thing that may have redeemed the mk4, IE. being a useful donor of quality metal, has now failed too.

    Grrr..........MODERN SHEIT!!!

It is true that the 1.8t is not GTI material, more like GT2 when free ;)

Stock 1.8T Mk4 "GTi" are still not as good as the mighty Mk2.

Just crap in general. Dan's right, we should ban Mk4s.

jeez they aren't that bad! I've changed pretty much every bush on mine and it was no harder than on the mk2, the strut inside the hub design is pretty crap though. All newer cars are harder to work on than old ones, its a design feature to try and make you use the dealers

the only real issue I have is the woeful handling. The engines are good and the interiors are very nice, perfect commuting car. Obviously you need an additional old dub for fun times though

thinking about it its easier to press the mk4 beam bushes in as you have a flat surface to press against, unlike the earlier golfs!

but it annoys me you can't adjust the front camber [:x]

ive had 7 golfs, in order

    mk2 3 door alpine white 8v - silly low
    mk3 3 door VR6 highline - great noise
    mk4 4motion - great car
mk5 140 tdi - company car but not bad
    mk4 4motion - another great car
mk2 3 door BBM bam engined - stupidly quick, handled well but felt very light at the rear
mk4 R32 - the best golf i have owned by far, point to point car quicker than the last mk2 i had as you can use all the power, in the dry prob not much in it, in the wet no contest.

The R feels heavy but well planted because of it, mine has had about 3500 spent on the chassis so corners well for a lardy mk4, the noise from the milltek is fantastic to the point today my car turned more heads than the DB7 in the same carpark (we were both driving)

Mk4 R32 is the next car on my list! Great cars imo!

Has to be a silver one though ;)
