good go to a parts suplier with Leon cupra R disk and see if the golf 16v 256 vented disk is the same if it is you are sorted
then all need is the polo 4 stud hub and stub axle
or a polo hub with the leon stub axle and lupo p/n6E0501466A or 6E0501465A bracket

interesting, would be nice to know if the 1.3 MK2 Golf 239x10mm solid disc fits, they're almost 10 cheaper than the polo specific 232x9mm discs!

yes it is fun you shoud say that as i was given two options for the polo disk's
one was 239x10 and the other was 232x9
i dont think part numbers are the same but that would be to eazy would it not
i could measure the polo disk tomorrow
    if that would help

yeah thats not the issue in question, we know polo discs fit polo hubs
What I wanted to know is if you can use MK2 1.3 solid front discs instead as they're lots cheaper!

The Polo disc is 39.5mm thick overall. The 239x10mm and 239x20mm mk2 front discs are 39mm. The spigot size is the same at 65mm.

    yes that what i thought
i have tryed 239x20 on the polo hub in the past it fitted fine
so all front disk's that fit a mk2 golf ex will fit the polo hub
    ie 239x10 / 239x20 / 256x20 / 280x22
and with the caliper from golf m4 with vented disk on the rear like the 4motion
you can fit 239x20 disk's and with the carrier from the same you can fit the 256x20
and if you get a converson from eurospec you can go 280x22
a bit of overkill but it could be done

main thing i'm worried about is the diameter, is there enough room under the caliper for the extra 7mm going from 232 to 239.

no only space for 237.88mm at the carrier so it would need work to fit
ie turn the disk down to 232mm or grind the carrier

have you noticed any difference handling wise with this setup of stub axle?

no difference handling wise and it is easier to change the brake disk
plus the wheel bearing shoud be stronger and last longer
this was the hole reason for the change
the overall track is the same with polo parts i used and the MK2 carrier and calliper
fit straight on with a longer bolt
the later polo/lupo setup with the p/n6E0501466A and 6E0501465A brackets
may require diffrent carriers from polo/lupo mk4 golf or seat Leon of that date
if you want to fitt biger brakes from Leon cupra R the later setup would probably be needed

Just out of interest. Does anybody know if there are any drilled and or groved rear disc available. Also best place to buy said items.

This is interesting, so if for example i have converted to 5x100 on my mk2 can i use the complete rear brake setup from say a seat cupra r on my mk2? (stub axle/vented disks/callipers/carriers)

yes but not with the polo stub axle i used
you have to use p/n6E0501466A and 6E0501465A brackets then use complete stub axle
and brakes from the seat cupra r
the brackets just bolt inbtween the beam and the stub axle
this is becuse the brake carrier on cupra and golf mk4 is wider at the point it bolts on
as it is bolting on to rear beam insted of the stub axle
the v5 golf has the same brake as the seat cupra r

EDIT mk4 stub axles and hub do not fit polo or golf mk1/2/3 rearbeams or polo 6n stub axles and not cupra r???

    thanks for that ryanp
