I voted no for now but my opinion may change when the sporting models are released.

    The no's have it :)
I've seen the Yanks land Aircraft on smaller ships......too God damn big for my liking. Not different enough. Looks too much like a Pug 307. Sorry VW, but you are lossing it :(

Did you see that they renamed Wolfsburg to Golfsburg for it's release. LOL.

My biggest criticism - The back end looks like a Seat The GTI concept looks very good tho. Interior is awsome. Are there plans for an R32?

They did mention on 5th Gear that we'd have to wait until late next year for the GTI and a 200+bhp version. So I'm thinking there will be something similar to a R32, but not just yet.

Yep I agree, they should re-launch the MK1 (in it's original GTI Glory) alongside the current VW Range. Call it the Rabbit GTI.

...we are dreaming though, it will never pass crash and other safety tests. They will need to bolt on ABS, Airbags, a catalyst, a 'super clean' engine and fill the rest of the space up with electronics. Shame though.

Or you could go for the South African Version....

    ...or maybe not ;) [IMG]

i'm under the impression i could de-badge it then go around telling people it's a peugeot, fiesta, seat, deawoo, etc nothing distinguishable to tell it apart from other jelly mould hatches.
you've just got to wait for someone to smash up their new 800bhp mk5 version then bang the engine in a mk1 or 2.who will be the first. :o

I've seen worse looking cars.... and the GTI concept looks damn funky.... as long as the performance engines are stormers it should be ok.

Hmmmm it's OK but it does look too much like the Peugeot and others... I don't really get the current trend for 'one box' tall cars, I mean they all look like mini MPVs, and who needs all that headroom? Is there a craze for wearing top hats that I don't know about?!

Maybe we need taller cars now as theres so many f**king speed bumps around, people wont give themselves brain damage thumping off the roof!

Good letter in Autocar talking about these new hatchbacks actually being so big nowadays that though you can fit them in a garage, there is little space to open doors.

Maybe the loss of sales as a result may lead to a change in priority, from just lengthening and widening to create space to being more creative with the space they have already got.

Think VW should pick another wind, and build another peoples car. :)

Looks too much like a Toyota and the new Astra (who copied who?) plus the back of the Golf is too much like a Seat and thus it has losts it Golf'ness... What's the point of having a New Golf with Seat looking rear lights, when those same lights are not used on the latest model Seats, but have Lexus style ones?

It just got worse from Mk3, but the Mk3 wasn't too bad, but the Mk4 got worse and not this Mk5 may as well be flushed down the pan!

    Mk1 [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] :)
    Mk2 [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D]
    Mk3 [xx(] [xx(] [xx(] :) :)
Mk4 [xx(] [xx(] [xx(] [xx(] :)
Mk5 [xx(] [xx(] [xx(] [xx(] [xx(]

They're not bad... I like the frontend, but the backend reminds me of some sort of Honda Civic or something... *shudder* and it seems to skinny and tall.
